I normally don't believe in pet…
I normally don't believe in pet insurance, but after 3 of my pets had costly health issues over the past few years that are now chronic requiring specialists for foreseeable future, I started considering it. I got concerned if any new health issues would arise so I landed on Pets Best since they don't require initial vet visit which is a huge pain for multiple pets. After a year, I wondered if I should keep it since I was still paying out of pocket for pre-existing conditions and I hadn't met my deductible for new minor issues that popped up. Then suddenly another one of my pets who was always healthy got really ill and I rushed her to the ER. They stabilized her and it cost $5300. This was my first big claim I ever submitted, so I worried if they'd honor it. It wasn't a pre-existing condition so I told myself that I'd cancel the policy if they denied the claim. About 3-4 weeks later I got an email confirming they paid out the claim which was the amount I expected based on my policy. I was so happy and am definitely sticking with them. I took a star off because they've been having intermittent technical issues with their app and website for about a month. I was also on pins and needles waiting for a response, so I'm not sure if 3-4 weeks is typical since I've never had pet insurance before. I even uploaded all the medical records from the visit hoping that would expedite it. Other than that, I'm very satisfied and if they finally fix their app/web issues permanently and speed up the wait time for a claim response, I'd give 5 stars. CS isn't helpful if you call to get a status update, they just told me they're probably backed up with claims and will do their best. The outcome is what I care most about though...they covered exactly what was supposed to be covered.

Reimbursements take a while
Reimbursements take a while. Good for accidents and illness but not on wellness. The wellness package is basic and very, very low that it only accommodate a small fraction of the actual costs. Better off just save up for the annual exam.

My dog needed surgery for a luxating patella. The claims were very easy to file online and I received reimbursement within a week. The surgery costs with preop appointments was close to $4000, so I was very grateful to have the coverage. The only complaint I have is about the increase of premiums after the first year. The coverage was well worth it though

I love how easy it is to process the claims. I just would like to see more money coming back to me when I do place a claim. If I were to save what I pay and then pay as my dog needs care I would actually have more money.....which I am really considering.....

MetLife pet insurance is a scam
At time of pet insurance purchase I did all that was requested of me by MetLife to start the policy, including giving the past 12 months of vet records for them to review. I pay $60 a month for the insurance. Our dog needed several visits to a dermatologist during the policy duration which MetLife started reimbursing me for. Then they stopped reimbursing me for dermatology visits when I would turn in the billing statements stating that they made a mistake and upon further review, the services were not covered. At this point, they had reimbursed me about $1600. It was my understanding that because I had turned in all my 12 months of previous vet records for MetLife to review before the policy started, they deemed the services to fall under the policy. 9 months after the last reimbursement payment to me, I get a letter from MetLife stating that I had 15 days to get over $1000 to them for the overpayment they made to me for ineligible services! Ultimately, I did everything MetLife said I needed to do for my pet to be insured under them, they made payments to me based upon their review of my previous vet bills and current situation, then 9 months later said I needed to pay them back $1000 of the $1600 they paid for dermatology services in 15 days otherwise I was going to be turned into a collection agency. Can you imagine if human insurance worked like this?!?! Covering medical bills and then deciding 9 months later not to cover them and saying people owe a significant amount of money back to the insurance company within 15 days! DO NOT GET METLIFE PET INSURANCE- THEY MAY COVER MEDICAL BILLS AT FIRST WITH PAYMENTS TO YOU INITIALLY, BUT AT THE END OF YOUR POLICY TERM THEY DEMAND THE MONEY BACK SAYING THEY MADE A MISTAKE.
