EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE

The rep I spoke to on the phone was very nice and very knowledgeable. He was able to give me an apples to apples comparison of your coverage vs. my current coverage and I realized I was paying way too much than I should have.

I had never used the insurance before…

I had never used the insurance before so I was pleasantly surprised that the Pet ER was able to get an approval instantly and refund my money I had paid on the spot. I didn't ask about using this until we had picked up our Pet, I only wished I had asked when I dropped her off. I also submitted invoices I had paid and the approval only took a day or two. Trupanion paid exactly what the policy said. The only thing that wasn't covered was an exam by the first place we went to which makes sense but it was still under the emergency care she was being given, not a regular vet exam. Overall very pleased with how it worked, how much was paid and would highly recommend for anyone's pet insurance. I hope I never have to use it again but if I do, I know I will feel well taken care of.

Recent Claim Submission Experience

well, thus far, I've been successfully able to submit a claim via email, a big thing for this "technephobe". MetLife Pet processed my claim, and provided my "refund" (or whatever its term) in a timely manner! Thank you for that!

Price Gouging!

When I started with Healthy Paw ten years ago, the were owned by a different company. Each year my increases were reasonable. When they were acquired by Chubb, I started seeing jumps of 50% or more annually. This year they sent me a notice that my rates were increasing by 150% from $105/month to $257/month. I am gobsmacked by this increase. They sent a long letter trying to justify why they had to up my rate and it was all corporate BS. The problem with changing insurance companies is that no new company will cover pre-existing conditions. So, they kind have you by the balls if you have a pet with a chronic condition. Chubb has no conscience when it comes to exploiting this aspect of pet insurance, knowing that you will probably suck it up and pay the exorbitant increase because of a pre-existing or chronic condition. Not this year. The 150% increase in premium rates is cost prohibitive for me. I did some research and found that there are plenty of insurers out there with the same coverage for far less. The average I found was about $125/month. Don't get stuck with Healthy Paws. They lure you in with a competitive rate and then increase the premiums every year at an excessive percentage. Shop around before getting stuck with them.

We got pet insurance with Truanion when…

We got pet insurance with Truanion when we got our Springer Spaniel in Ottawa and we were paying about $68 per month. About a year later our dog was diagnose with a incurable enlarge heart, thank good we had insurance. In October of 2023 we moved to Vancouver Island and our insurance went up to almost $90 per month and they said veterinarian cost was higher in BC. We compaired our cost from Ottawa and BC and our cost was less. Now we moved around the corner from were we lived and the insurance went up to $108 month. So I called them and they told me because we moved the cost is higher and I told them it was just a block away. Then after talking with them they said it was because of so many claims. I got the insurance so that I don't have to pay so much, is this fair??

The process of getting a quote was easy and straightforward. The only issue I had was when I called and the rep had a different price than I did.

I’m posting this as a warning

I’m posting this as a warning to other pet owners. My Pets Best policy premium increased from about $54 per month to $94 per month — roughly a 72% increase — at renewal. There were zero claims on the policy, no changes to coverage, and my dog is a 6-year-old Cane Corso. Pets Best stated that an email notification was sent and provided a date and subject line. However, after thoroughly searching my inbox, spam, and trash folders, I never received any email clearly disclosing this increase. They were unable to provide proof of delivery or receipt. Once I discovered the increase, I contacted customer service and cancelled the policy. Pets Best only refunded a prorated portion of the current month and refused to refund the increased premiums already charged, despite the lack of clear notice. I’m not disputing the company’s right to adjust rates. My issue is the lack of effective disclosure of a substantial premium increase and the refusal to make it right once identified. I strongly recommend that pet owners monitor renewal billing very closely and not rely on Pets Best to clearly notify them of major price changes.
