Great claims experience!

After I spent thousands of dollars getting my dog's broken toe fixed, I looked into pet insurance. I had only heard of VPI, and I wasn't impressed by the kind of coverage they offered (at the time, I have no knowledge of what their current policies cover). In my research I looked at things like what was covered and what the limits were. My main objective was not to cover ordinary expenses, but to be able to make decisions about major health care options without having to worry too much about cost. I ended up with Healthy Paws, because it covered everything I wanted covered and the coverage was unlimited. My dog has been covered for six years and is now 14. I've only made a few claims, but the there have been two major incidents that ran into thousands of dollars. Most recently, she spent almost a week in ICU, had an array of tests, procedures and medications and was discharged with a glucose monitor. The total was about $15,000 (and there will be more, with ongoing treatment). I was so relieved to be able to make decisions about her care without cost being a factor. The claims process is easy: I just uploaded the invoice from the vet to their site. I got emails updating me on the status, and the first claim was paid within three weeks (direct deposited into my checking account); the follow-up claims were processed even more quickly (presumably because they already had her medical records from the first claim). There were no questions or issues. The only other contact was when they emailed me asking me how she was doing. One of the vets who cared for her told me she also has Healthy Paws, and that they will sometimes do a pre-approval so they will pay the vet directly. This could be a factor if you don't have the cash (or enough credit) to pay the vet and then wait to be reimbursed. My next dog will be covered by Healthy Paws from puppyhood!

Relieved

My two year old lab mix had to have foreign body surgery which would’ve cost my husband and I close to $5,000 without pet insurance. Luckily we have Healthy Paws and they processed our claim in less than 10 business days. Everything that their policy states was covered at 90%, after our annual deductible. I’m very glad we signed up for Healthy Paws when we first adopted our pup. The monthly premiums are reasonable based on the coverage and their customer service is excellent.

Peace of Mind!

My pet insurance plan has been a wonderful investment already! I especially love the option to cover wellness and preventative care because it’s so important to keeping our fur babies healthy but can be expensive. The app lets me snap a photo of my invoice and I’m good to go. I bought this plan for all of my dogs!

Simple Claim Filing & Quick Reimbursement

We first signed up for doggie insurance while living in Florida where the cost of seeing a vet is astronomical - add in any ailment and you’re left with a bill that’s hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Ninety percent of the bills were covered by Nationwide. The only surgery he has had was a neuter and 25% of the cost was covered. All prescriptions, including monthly flea and heart worm are 90% covered. Since were paying for those regardless, it justifies the cost of paying for insurance for when something does come up and we need to use it. We have filed 4 claims using the online pre-filled form. I just downloaded it to my phone and filled in the document by adding text boxes. It was very simple & quick. You then just email it to them. The longest it’s taken for a claim to be processed was between 4-5 weeks; the quickest was 2 weeks.

I would have given a 10 for everything if my monthly premium didn't go up so much!

I have thoroughly enjoyed being with Nationwide -- starting with the monthly cost, the coverage, ease of submitting claims and the direct deposit for reimbursement. However, the fact that my premium went up by $38 PER MONTH will not be sustainable if it continues every year. My dog is healthy and the only claims last year were for spaying and wellness check up. I could almost understand such an increase if she was sickly and constantly at the vet, but that's not the case. I will ride it out this year, but going forward if it continues to increase in this way, I will have to leave Nationwide.

Easiest Insurance Ever

My purebred English Staffordshire Terrier and one of my mixed American Staffordshire Terriers have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. We got them insurance after we experienced over $10,000 worth of vet bills for a different dog, and we never wanted that to happen again! I think we've had the insurance on the other 2 for about 4 years now. We hadn't used it much until recently when our English Staffy came back with high "liver death cells" on his bloodwork. Healthy Paws has been there to reimburse us for blood tests, ultrasounds, biopsies and medications. Knowing that your insurance is going to come through for you during those expensive times really helps ease the stress. Thanks Healthy Paws! We plan on using them for all future dogs in our home.

Its a Scam!

We had been obligated to add pet insurance when we picked up our 3 month old puppy. I will first state the do NOT cover any medication, and randomly subtract $80 from each claim that they will not cover. On top of not covering for many things. I have to constantly call every time they mess up on the claim and fight with them to fix it. They are not at all looking out for you or your pet. We have paid over $1000 to them and over another $1000 to my vet. And we have only had her for 10 months. STAY AWAY from trupanion. You will save money just paying out of pocket.

Charge way to much. Dont pay back what they say they do.

My bill was 50 a month. Without telling me they up'd it to over 90 a month!!!! What a huge jump. That is crazy!! then I couldn't get a surgeon to work do my dogs surgery till a day after my policy renewed. After I had only JUST met the deductable for the previous year. So I had to pay the full 250 deductible again! Big deal, pissed me off but whatever I moved on just left a bad taste in my mouth because I called them and told them she needed surgery but I couldn't get it down until a day after they pretty much laughed in my face and didnt care. Then they did not pay out the full 90% they claim to and charged me another 250. Then a couple days after they gave me the amount they said they would cover which is not anywhere near what they said they would cover in the policy (tried calling them and talking to them, they didnt care and said the amount was correct)!! They send me a bill for 654.87!! So not only did they up my monthly payment, not pay out my 90% they owed me for my dogs surgery, then charge me another 250 deductible, then now they send me a bill for 654! And expect me to pay that!Fuck no. I'm pissed, I pay way to much to them for them to try and pull this. That was the last straw. I'm cancelling and switching to someone else. If you care about your dog put your insurance money for them to a better insurance company. All they care about is money.

Pet insurance must have for new puppies - and best of 3 insurers tried to date!

Purchased day 10 week puppy came home and $1,850 reimbursements later very glad I did (premium about $445 for 90% reimbursement after $500 deductible). Fast human phone customer service and offer waiver from 6-month waiting period for orthopedic issues if have vet do exam after purchase. Also having used two other insurers in past for other pets; prefer one deductible for all issues not new for each; specialists being paid at same amount as regular vet; and initial diagnostic vet visits covered (not all do - we have been at least 10 times the past 11 months). Only recommendation is claim submission form as requires 1 invoice per submission. My mini-aussie contracted severe case of Giardia that continued for about 4 months (many dogs have parasite it but never suffer effects). Four courses of treatment later it also effected her overall digestive health including vomiting and ongoing food irritations. Then after antigens gone; she caught kennel cough a couple months ago probably at doggy day care. Through it all Embrace has approved every claim submitted with no questions besides vet medical records - or hassle - and the check arrives 10 to 14 days later. In the beginning there were some claim issues related to vet billing changes but I quickly spoke to a supervisor. She has been very professional, and empathetic, and is just an e-mail away if a payment tardy (been about 20). I just received the policy renewal quote and was estatic so see no increase (unlike Go Pet Plan which I used several years ago for another dog - went up 10% annually first few from puppy initial plan to 15% by year 6 so dropped). Also used Healthy Paws in past for cat but when compared before buying this time it was more expensive.
