Having pet insurance has helped us multiple times.
Healthy Paws is a wonderful pet insurance company! They have been so easy to work with. Claims are all very easily submitted on the portal through their website. You just upload the itemized invoice and the medical records you receive from your vet. The turnaround time to have check in hand or direct deposit is 10 to 14 days. Your pet will need to have a medical exam around the time you get the insurance. Most (if not all?) pet insurance companies do not cover claims related to pre-existing conditions. But don't let that stop you as they do cover a lot that can happen in an animal's life...Accident, injury, or illness (not involved with pre-existing). Depending which plan you go with is how much the monthly bill will be. You can easily play with the tool on their website to find out what works for you with regards to percentage payout and deductible and the monthly fee. We have been insured with them since we got our two rescue pups, Lainy and Jerry, when they were approximately age 1 and 2. At the start, I think we paid around $85/month combined. They are now 8 and 9 years old, and it is now about $100/month combined. So if you only have one pet, depending what plan you choose, likely your monthly will be somewhere between $30-$60. In 7 years, we have had two major incidents with Jerry as well as several tests to evaluate elevated liver values. Lainy has yet to have a claim. I am so thankful we have had insurance! The first major claim was an accident where he was hit by a car in 2020 and it was a no brainer to take him to emergency as we had insurance. The second major claim was July 2024 where we woke up in the morning, and he suddenly couldn't use his back left leg. By the end of the day, he couldn't use either of his back legs. It was a no brainer! We have insurance and he needs help. We immediately went to emergency. After x-ray, they sent him home with pain pills and a referral to neurology. The next day with no real change, I contacted neurology and they said they only take same-day emergencies and to send them a video of him. Well, they admitted him the same-day. He had an MRI and after discussion of costs (many thousands of dollars) and the plan, he was off to back surgery as he had IVDD, Intervertebral Disk Disease, a disc protruding 50% into his spinal cord. 6 to 8 weeks post-surgery, expectation is 90% recovery with only 10% chance of relapse. Great news! While home recovery has not been easy for me or Jerry, it was well worth it. In these four weeks as I write this, he has returned his ability to walk and go to the bathroom on his own. His tail is wagging and his spirit is strong. We are bonded together stronger than ever. He has a new stroller he loves so we can still go out on long strolls and smell the fresh air and pop out of the stroller to explore on the ground for his mini walks. The length of time allowed for walking will continue to increase. I am so thankful we had insurance as this made our decision to have the surgery a possibility. I highly recommend getting and keeping pet insurance. This makes handling major health events so much easier. Our pets truly do become family and having insurance makes caring for them, especially into their elder years, so much easier. Thank you Healthy Paws!

Easy to file claims. Great company
We have a small dog that we have insured with Pets Best for several years. It is very easy to file claims. The explanation of benefits is easy to understand. The cost is reasonable and the increases each year make sense with her increasing age. When I called to speak to an agent he was easy to understand, professional and very helpful. I recommend them highly.

Well worth the switch
Our two senior large dogs are insured through MetLife, previously with Pets Best (which I’ve also reviewed favorably). Everything takes about 1.5 times as long with MetLife, but after the initial pains of transferring over documentation, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Claims are clearly and cleanly processed, and any questions along the way can be quickly addressed with a simple phone call. After the switch, our dogs have a much more generous policy at an even lower cost.

My view. of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
Fabulous pet insurance! Have been with them since I got two puppy pug brothers in 2012. Lost one last year, and they were extremely kind and compassionate in noting my loss. Have accumulated significant vet bills over the years and especially recently because my dogs mean everything to me. Healthy Paws has a very slick, easy online claim submission process and communicates back very quickly via email. Claims have been adjudicated and direct deposit made to my bank account astonishingly fast! A couple of days! I finish by saying I wholeheartedly recommend pet owners go with this company for peace of mind that you can get and afford the best possible care for your beloved pets!

Best Pet Insurance!
ASPCA has been the BEST pet insurance! With Rolo's various sicknesses and unavoidable emergency vet visits, I had so much more ease during these times knowing that ASCPA would take care of everything quickly and with great care. This has been the biggest life saver financially - I cannot recommend them more!!!!
Poor communication and customer service
I was denied my claim due to a vet not responding. Which is completely legitimate but it took me a month of waiting on hold and having no response to emails to even figure out what they were looking for. I kept getting emails saying I didn't need to do anything and after weeks of trying to contact them I finally got a person to write back via email to say they didn't have my vet info. A couple weeks later it was denied. If I had known the vet wasn't responding I could have called them but I am just going to cancel and move on. Only now I have a pre-existing condition that won't be covered.
