I would strongly discourage anyone from…
I would strongly discourage anyone from using MetLife Pet Insurance. I insured my cat Leo with their illness & injury plan in June 2024. A few months later, he was diagnosed with GI lymphoma after an ultrasound, endoscopy, and biopsies. MetLife has denied almost every claim related to his cancer treatment – including advanced diagnostics, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, emergency hospitalizations, and oncology follow-ups – by labeling everything as a “pre-existing condition” because he had occasional vomiting before the policy started. Even after we provided full medical records and filed an appeal, MetLife upheld the denial using a single sentence from a July 2024 vet note and treated all later cancer care as excluded. When we tried to appeal the newer 2025 denials (including thousands of dollars in chemo and emergency care), MetLife refused to even review them, saying we had missed a 90-day deadline. Their own appeal form says we “may request a second review” within 90 days or as reasonably practicable after receiving the denial, but they still shut the door on us. We have paid many thousands of dollars out of pocket while believing we were covered for exactly this kind of catastrophic illness. The way MetLife has handled our case feels misleading, rigid, and deeply unfair – especially to pet owners who buy insurance specifically to protect their animals and families in situations like this.

Nicole, 5+ Star Service in all Areas
Nicole is very knowledgeable about premiums, rate increases, options to reduce premiums while reducing coverage. She shares her knowledge with clarity and patience (as I had quite a few questions), and Nicole followed up immediately with an email confirming our call. Nicole is more than a 5 star -- just superb in all respects.

Completely satisfied, above and beyond
I have had pet insurance for about five years now. I never needed it until my dog tore her cruciate ligament. After submitting the appropriate paperwork and getting the operation, I was reimbursed almost immediately to the full value of the insurance. they answered the phone quickly when I called. Their website was user-friendly and easy to navigate. Their reception staff were always courteous and knowledgeable. In short, excellent experience and I cannot recommend enough.

Nationwide shouldn’t be taking payment…
Nationwide shouldn’t be taking payment for insurance if I don’t have insurance for my pet for 3 business days. It wasn’t transparently communicated that I have to wait for approval before I have insurance for my pet.

Seamless Experience!
This is my first time ever having pet insurance so I wasn't sure what to expect here, but my experience was nothing short of the best! I submitted a wellness claim for my pet on 11/14 and it was processed within 2 business days on 11/18. Compensation was given on 11/24, 4 business days after the claim was completed. PetsBest was diligent when informing me about the process from start to finish. I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you for the seamless experience!

Premiums/Reimbursement/Deductible
I signed up with Healthy paws in 2012 for my two dogs with $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement. It was a great company until this year. I only have one dog now who is over 13 years old. My premiums have gone up alot in the last few years. My premiums change every December. In December 2023 it was 242.14. In December 2024 it went to $363.21. For December 2025 not only will it be raised to $411.54 but I am no longer eligible for the $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement. It will be $500 deductible with 70% reimbursement. Is this because I have an elderly dog? Earlier this year I had over 5 claims that did not process although they were submitted on the website which I had done for years. I had to speak with a Customer Liaison Manager to find the claims and process them. Soon after there were 3 more claims that were not processed and once again I had to speak to a Customer Liaison Manager to find the claims and process them. Healthy Paws also changed how payments are made. I always used a credit card. Now if you use a credit card you will be charged 2.99%. I asked if I could pay directly online through my bank as I do my other bills. I was told that was not an option. If I didn't want to pay a fee the premium would need to come out directly from my savings or checking account. Every time a company gets sold the customer is on the losing side. Don't sign up with Healthy Paws.
