Trupanion over uses the "pre-existing condition" clause. They refused to cover any GI related issues for the rest of her life because we reported vomiting during our first vet visit after picking her up from the rescue. The vomiting was due to anxiety etc from being in a new home and no underlying "condition". Later in life she developed pancreatitis and this was not covered. Similar issue with my other dog who had a slight heart murmur when we first adopted. Any treatment for high blood pressure, heart failure, cardiologists etc was not covered. In addition the percentage of expenses they paid on covered issues shrunk dramatically over the 13 years we have been using them. Stay away. I will....

Wonderful experience
Wonderful experience! My dog’s claim for an unexpected illness was paid in fewer than 10 days! The premiums are reasonable and the policy is very generous! Love this insurance!

Their website has been down for weeks now and no one is responding to my claims submitted via email. This appears to be a new, common problem as indicated by comments all over their instagram page and reddit posts.
