Healthy Paws came through for me
I started a health insurance plan for my dog when we rescued him from the shelter 3 years ago. Fortunately, I didn't need to submit any claims to Healthy Paws for about 3 years and it seemed I was paying for something I wasn't really needing....until we had a doggie medical issue that required surgery. Filing the claim with Healthy Paws was easy. I paid the vet bill at the time of service, went home and opened the Healthy Paws app. I took a picture of the vet bill through the app and sent in the claim. Healthy Paws asked for the vet notes to be sent over to them as well, and after my vet sent over the notes, I had a check in my mailbox covering exactly what they said they would cover. When my dog went in for surgery 2 weeks later, I did the same thing with the pet hospital bill, and again within 2 weeks I got a check from them that covered everything they promised to cover. The policy saved my thousands of dollars on the surgery. There were no "fine print" issues or "got'cha" technicalities. Their coverage details were clear from day 1 and they delivered exactly as advertised when I needed them most. The health insurance is a gamble, but if you're looking for it, my experience with this company has been wonderful. They even sent out an email asking how my dog was doing about a week after his surgery. Healthy Paws came through when I needed them and filing claims with my phone and the app was simple. My dog is healing from surgery, and I would have been scrambling to find a way to pay if I didn't have this plan with Healthy Paws. If you're questioning how reliable they would be if your pet had an issue, I couldn't ask for a better and easier experience than what they just provided for me and my dog.

Does not value customers.
While I have overall been happy with the coverage, the appeal process is impossible. After nearly three years of being a customer, I essentially begged Trupanion to provide some guidance and advice for my appeal process so my dog could be covered if he ever had diarrhea. When I first got him as a puppy, he had severe diarrhea and was dehydrated so I took him to the vet during the enrollment period. Big mistake. Trupanion claimed diarrhea was a preexisting condition, so when my dog got sick again from Kennel cough, but also had diarrhea as a symptom, they wouldn’t cover it. I didn’t feel like they valued me or my money to help to say with the company. Oh well.
