Preventive care not what you’d expect. They really make it clear they just want your money.

It’s possible I missed it but I was under the assumption when I signed up that the money towards preventative care was a lump sum not split up into individual categories. Because of this I will likely cancel the policy and seek a provider that doesn’t nickel and dime you. This is clearly a way to get out of paying. Not every dog needs all the things on the list. It felt very sneaky too to not make that information painfully apparent from the start. Really really disappointed.

Trupanion Saves Lives

I have had Trupanion through 2 generations of pets. They helped give me 16 months more with my Staffie girl's cancer. They covered all of her needs. Everything. Down to her daily Cerenia injections. They only lose a star due to issues with a 2nd cancer dog of mine and their determination that it was inflammatory and not cancer, even though we finally determined it was stomach cancer. (but they didn't help with the bill...) The prevalence of cancer in dogs is rapidly increasing. To the point that I am now dealing with my 6th and possibly my 7th cancer diagnosis in my last 12 dogs. I have had Trupanion with 4 of my dogs. My big boy had a small bump on his head. Soft, squishy, felt like a lipoma. Either way, we did an aspirate of it and it came back cancerous. Turned out to be a soft tissue sarcoma. From the time that the FNA came back, to the time he had full bloodwork, a full body CT scan, surgery and was waking up? Was 3 days. We got results on Monday. He had a full body CT to look for metasis that day. The results were back on Tuesday and he had surgery Wednesday morning. I didn't have to worry. I didn't have to think about it. I didn't have to figure out what we were doing. It was simply. Do what ever needs to be done. He had issues, his entire incision came apart, he developed a methicillin resistant infection, he need more care, more medication, more antibiotics. *We also found spinal stenosis, and other arthritic issues. Which Trupanion has also covered his medical needs there. I have an allergy girl. She has had testing, takes her immunotherapy monthly. She is a big good girl. And she needs Cytopoint on top of that. The cost of her Cytopoint (because of her size) is 3 times her monthly premium. Is Trupanion worth the money? She had a TPLO surgery. She has arthritis. Trupanion helps with all of the costs there. Did we go 5 years without a claim on my boy? Did I go years without a claim on my Staffie girl? Did I go years without a claim, paying my premiums, not thinking about "what if" "what does the future hold"? Yes. I did. I couldn't be more grateful for that peace of mind. The review asks for a date of service. That date spans years and years. But for my two "babies" now? That I called and enrolled the SAME DAY that they came home from the shelter? That big boy's cancer treatment and surgery was December of 2022. It only lets me go back to 2/13/2023 (he was still being treated then) But his surgery was 12/7/2022. This isn't one visit. This is all of it. Trupanion saving lives. I preach health insurance for dogs to everyone. Because it saved lives.
