They're great until you really need them

They're customer service is great! They've never denied a claim. So far good right? Our dog got a cancer diagnosis. The claims got pretty expensive. We ate up about all the the $5000 coverage. So this year our rate went up to $6474.21. Than means to get $5000 coverage we have to spend the $500 deductible plus our 20% portion ,$1000, plus $6474.21. Full coverage from Embrace will cost us $7974.21! Response to Embrace's reply. I'm not going to go over all of the numbers. Every option I was given, increase the deductible, lower the percentage Embrace would cover or both. The bottom line is the cost of coverage will be well over $1000 more than paying for our dogs medical expenses. With that said, I realize Embrace is not in the charity business. I do feel in this case that honesty is the best policy here. Saying it makes no economic sense for me to continue using Embrace. The expense would be far greater than the coverage is worth.

Sonnet cancelled my policy after 3 days of non payment (I had a lost credit card)

Call tree is painful and very tedious. I also lost my credit card and while I was waiting for a new one to come in, Sonnet cancelled my insurance with them. Their way of notifying their customers of this rule makes it so that it's VERY easy to miss. If I look back to the email I received, no where did it state they would actually cancel within only 3 days of non-payment. I would have at the very least expected a phone call if there was such a drastic penalty to being 3 days late on a payment with an email in red with all caps saying "we are going to cancel your policy and you cannot reinstate it with us". None of this was apparent or clear in the communication received. Then, I called in. I had a helpful rep who understood the situation I was in and spoke with someone to come to the agreement that they would not cancel if I paid in full to the end of the term. I did that right away with the rep on the phone, and he said it would take a few business days to apply, and he would have to do some manual work on his end to reverse the cancellation. We end the call. Lo and behold, I get an email that Sonnet is responding to my initial escalation I sent via chat (which BTW I sent WEEKS ago... and keep in mind I'm on a "cancelled" policy). So they get back to me after weeks via email, and ask me to call in. I check my portal... it's still showing that I will be cancelled and not reinstated. I call in and the rep said the rep that was working with me is no longer with the company. So literally the rep didn't follow through or pass this off to anyone to complete this manual task, as promised. When this all initially happened, I also got a ping back over their chat by a rep who essentially told me that "I could have avoided this by updating my info within the 3 days". I have never had something been so poorly mismanaged. Fail stops need to be in place, things happen, and credit cards get lost/stolen. I rely on emails to clearly express when something needs urgent attention, and I take care of it accordingly. Sonnet's systems and processes have failed me as a customer that pays bills on time with all accounts, and this was simply a result of unfortunate timing- this whole experience has wasted $ on Sonnet, and wasted my time, and has also potentially jeopardized my ability to get insurance (when insurance is cancelled on you, you are not allowed to reinstate with your provider or you can struggle to get insurance in the future). All in all, more robust companies like StateFarm exist for a reason. Don't be fooled by the nice marketing, this experience has made absolutely no sense and reinforces that the more robust companies have been in business for a while for a reason and will take care of you more than Sonnet will.

Well...this last time

Well...this last time, I submitted a bill for around $13,500. It took way more time to get it approved. I'm thinking because of the amount of the bill and probably because they wanted to be sure the illness wasn't a preexisting condition. In any case, it was approved and I am happy about it. What I am not happy about is that ManyPets isn't accepting new Calif pets and will be transferring Calif policies to another pet insurance. Hope they'll be as good or better with approving claims.

Horrible experience not just once but twice

MetLife pet insurance is a scam. I first had them in march of 2024 and filed my first claim taking my dog to check for ear infection but got denied because in Feb 2023 when spayed vet checked ears and needed cleaning wasn’t treated for infection in Feb but because had vet checked ears that was considered pre existing issue. I canceled policy however in August I signed back up . In April 2025 I took dog in the have ears checked and no infection just gave wash for ears but guess what it got denied saying pre existing condition dates back to 2024. I will never do business with MetLife and I suggest to anyone find another provider who cares and doesn’t deny for something that wasn’t diagnosed and then to deny a year later saying pre existing. Dogs get things like humans do we get ear infections etc but we don’t get denied by our insurance for something that wasn’t diagnosed a year ago as pre existing. Beware as I spoke to both representative and manager who told me I had to go through this appeal process and have my vet also write something. They are not helpful and manager I spoke to Dianna shouldn’t be a manager. I’m going with another provider who will care about my dog and the fact that I pay my bill monthly. Companies like met life shouldn’t be in pet insurance
