A nice peace of mind, but keep raising rates significantly each year (35% this year)
I have mostly been very pleased with the peace of mind and ease of Healthy Paws. I've had years where I've had a $1000 or more in reimbursements. I'm not sure if it's because I actually put in claims or if it's that my cat is now 12 years old but they raised my policy monthly premium from $73 to $99. I have a 7 yr old and 12 yr old cat. The 7yr has had no claims. I've been a client for 10 years for the older cat.
Our older (7 years) and younger (2 years) dog are both insured by HP. We are very happy with the insurance. They have always been quite reasonable and very prompt in processing and sending reimbursement for our vet bills!
If only human insurance was as good as my pet insurance!
Human insurance companies could learn a thing or two from Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, truly. When I had to put my first dog down and emailed Healthy Paws with a heavy heart to end my policy, I never thought that I would receive a condolence card in the mail with personalized messages signed by every staffer in the office a week later--the compassion and care that went into such a simple act brought me to tears. Human insurance companies don't do that...
Fast forward two years and we got another rescue puppy: there was no question that I would immediately return to Healthy Paws. However, I was thrown for a loop when around Tycho's first birthday, I took him to the vet because he was limping and was told that he needed two knee replacements. At almost $4500 each, I would never have been able to give my big fur baby the care he deserves without Healthy Pets. I submitted all of Tycho's medical history and all of his receipts and within a week of each claim, I received checks in the mail. Again, if only human insurance policies were so simple and accommodating...
But that's not all! (I feel like an infomercial, but that's seriously how confident I am in this company.) Amidst the stress of helping my dog recover from his surgery, Healthy Paws customer service sent me follow-up emails to check on Tycho and see how he was doing--TWICE! When was the last time your HUMAN insurance did something like that?
I will fur-ever use and promote Healthy Paws to my family and friends. They have cracked the code on customer service on so many levels while simultaneously making claims simple and straight forward.
Our maltipoo has been covered by Trupanion for 11 years (since he was 6 months of age). The claims process has been extremely fast for each claim and the coverage has certainly been worth the premiums we have paid. Highly recommend.
WORST insurance ever. Just save your money for when you need to go to the vet. Really read what a “preexisting” condition is. They don’t need a formal diagnosis to deny something with that reason, which they’ll deny everything as a preexisting condition. I swear I could bring my dog in with a broken leg and it would say “dog had bones prior to policy start date.” Can’t get ahold of ANYONE from customer service. Waited forty five minutes on hold just to get hung up on. Took over a week to respond to my emails (multiple emails, got one response). SAVE. YOUR. MONEY.
Stuck me with a surgery bill and didn't pay a single Penny. Accepted my pets after a very in depth phone conversation as well as submitting ALL of my pets medical records. Policy was in force 13 months prior to submitting my claim. The claim was denied for a " preexisting condition" nothing indicated in all of the records (4 years worth ) that would cause the claim to be denied. That is what the representative said on the phone interview when he was selling me the policy. Once the claim was filed they changed their mind. Unbelievable that this is allowed to go on.
My dog Berkley had a mild laceration in his right eye and was scratching a lot. So I took him to the vet immediately and had him checked up and they did an ear cytological test and it turns out he also had ear infection in both ears. So they prescribed eye meds, ear meds and something for the pain. The vet tech ran the invoice through Trupanion and immediately I received a text message and an email message letting me know what was covered and what not. I only had to pay a little over $20. Great! Very pleased! Went home to take care of my pup an pamper him.
I have been a policy holder for over 9 years(ever since I rescued my dog). They have always been great & it was time for me to renew my policy. I wanted to see if there were any other options, & Aiden in customer service was so helpful & informative. Great company to deal with. Highly recommend.
