Love them1

I found Healthy Paws here and signed up due to the good reviews as well as the great coverage. A month later, my dog was attacked by a foster dog. The claims process was easy and with 90% reimbursement I was super happy to not be paying for the whole thing. I don't know what I would do if I hadn't made the choice to finally buy pet insurance. They are also SUPER fast, I have submitted claims and had a decision the next morning. So fast! I really only have good things to say about them and recommend them to all my bull terrier people as well as friends with dogs. Pet insurance is worth it. You never know what could happen in the future.

Beware of per-incident plans!!

Our beloved Cattle Dog Caper was diagnosed with bladder cancer. The cost for chemotherapy added up quickly, and Pet Partners would not pay for any alternative treatment (Caper got acupuncture every week). The maximum amount insured was $13,000. However, since the per-incident amount was only $5,000, Pet Partners (AKC) was not willing to cover the continued treatment for Caper. Although we still had $8,000 (!!) to cover medical expenses, we were not able to use a single cent for Caper. Pet Partner told me that they would "gladly" pay for the treatment if Caper broke a leg, but not for his cancer treatment. I wished I would have known all that before I let them talk me into a - very expensive - health insurance for my sweet companion. Stay away fom AKC - Pet Partners..!!!

very good response

The claim process is easy as long as your vet will complete the form. They respond quickly and I have had no problem with getting claims filed and receiving reimbursement.

Maintenance Meds Claim

I work with Trupanion on almost a monthly basis for maintenance medications for one of my pets. EVERY claim is easy to manage and quickly processed. I have recommended them to at least five people I know who are pet parents.

A Life Saver, Truly An Amazing Company

After our dog sustained a major leg injury and started to show lameness in her rear hind leg, we took her to a specialist for an evaluation. A $4,000 quote later and we were unsure that we would be able to cover the costs of her care up front. After reviewing her policy and contacting Healthypaws, they agreed to not only cover 90% of the cost of her care (per her policy) but also helped us to directly pay the service provider so that we did not have to constrain ourselves with up front out of pocket costs. I cannot express enough how happy we are to have chosen Healthypaws for our pet's insurance needs. Every dime spent on her policy is well worth it for the care, concern, attentiveness, and professionalism of their staff when disaster unexpectedly strikes.

Excellent experience

When I adopted my 4th rescue dog (an American bulldog), I decided to get pet insurance for the younger 2 in order to reduce my financial risk. Little did I know at the time what a fortunate decision that was. A few months after I adopted my bulldog & enrolled him with Embrace, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening autoimmune disease (Evans syndrome). He's had a total of 3 critical episodes with this disease and is on long-term maintenance treatment for it; he also needs monthly labs and other ongoing care. In addition, he needed cruciate ligament surgery at the end of last year. I call him my million dollar dog. I'd guesstimate that he's had a total of $15-20k in medical bills over the ~3 years he's been with me, and virtually all of that has been covered at 80% by Embrace per the plan. It has been an absolute blessing not having to worry so much about treatment cost in the midst of dealing with the emotional and logistical stress associated with his illness. I know more than a few people who've had to let their dogs go because they simply couldn't afford the care needed to treat the disease. Claims (and the pre-cert for his surgery) have been handled promptly; I don't think they've ever questioned a claim we've submitted (I do my best to make sure I give them complete info so there aren't any delays). There was one exception, which is the reason I gave them 9 stars instead of 10: when my dog was attacked by another dog, they ruled it a 'pre-existing condition' because it said in his shelter records that he'd gotten agitated when they tried to give him an intake medical exam (so the underwriter made "aggression" a pre-existing condition).. I thought that was beyond a stretch. But I won't complain too much about that, because they have done a lot of heavy lifting on his vet bills. When I first enrolled him, there was a $50k lifetime reimbursement limit, which I became concerned about (before all this happened, I never imagined that he'd ever approached that number). When I called last year to see what his total was to date, they told me the lifetime limit had actually been removed because they switched underwriters. How often does something like that happen with an insurance company?? Their customer service is also excellent.
