Easy process, super quick payment!
Our dog Iris came down with a severe case of hemorrhagic colitis a few weeks ago. She spent a couple of days and one night at the vet and thankfully recovered fully. The bill at the end was large but we were so thankful that we have Trupanion insurance so that we only had to worry about our dog and not money. We received our reimbursement payment in less than a week which made covering the Visa bill simple. Thank you Trupanion!!

Don't do business with Pets Best
Under no circumstances should you do business with Pets Best. I'm caretaker to a 9-year-old chocolate lab. I paid in excess of $700 this year for an injury-only policy with a high per-incident deductible ($250). This bought me a policy with a $2,500 "per incident cap," which should be satisfactory for most issues your dog will encounter. Virtually every interaction I've had with Pets Best has been an ordeal. Usually, it's the typical insurance-company stuff about a demand for more records that you've already sent, but this summer they've taken unprofessionalism to new heights. On its Web site, the company says most claims are addressed within 10 business days; that's false. In June, I submitted a claim for my dog's recent ligament surgery. After waiting in excess of three weeks for a response, I called and asked for a supervisor, who told me: "Oh, I think it was being handled by a trainee. We'll make sure it's expedited." OK, I understand, everyone gets busy around the holidays, so ... About 5 minutes after I was off the phone with this rep (Brynn) I received an e-mail from Pets Best saying they'd contacted my vet for more information ... after they'd been sitting on the claim for weeks doing nothing--and after I'd confirmed twice that they already had the 1 year's worth of records they'd previously asked for. Delay, delay, delay. Finally, Pets Best agreed to pay a portion of my most recent claim, but withheld a full $1,000, claiming they had paid out on a "related condition" earlier in the year. Untrue. Their claims adjustor conflated two conditions that the vet clearly stated were separate, and I am now forced into an appeals process. Even more beguiling, when I called back to speak to this rep, she acknowledged that she hadn't read my claims. Stay away from Pets Best. They're liars and cheats. A responsible state government would be investigating them by now.

Best decision I've made in a long time!
I have a senior dog (approx. age 12 years)and, although her overall health was very good at the time, I decided to investigate pet insurance companies. Embrace gave me the best rates and coverage, so I signed up with them and a few months later my dog, Chelsea, started acting really lethargic. After tests, it was revealed that she had hypothyroidism and needed to be on medication for the rest of her life. The tests to determine this were expensive and my co-pay of $500 was applied. I have had a total of 3 claims for her, and EVERY time, there was something that was covered and reimbursable. I am so glad I made the choice to go with Embrace!

great customer service
We had Healthy Paws for a couple of years before our first claim, which was for major abdominal surgery for our sweet female greyhound. The customer service team was great about working with us, our local small-town vet, and the university hospital to which we were referred for surgery. We had one small hiccup where an initial blood screen was not covered because the billing code at my vet ("wellness screen") made it look like a preventative screening. Healthy Paws customer service was very understanding when I called to tell them it was done in response to symptoms of the dog's illness. After a quick fax from my vet clarifying the purpose of the blood work, they re-processed my claim and it came back covered. We had no surprises as far as coverage - everything was exactly as the Healthy Paws website states and our reimbursement matched up with the plan we pay for. The customer service team reached out to me several times after my initial call to follow up and check in - they even checked in to see how our dog was doing after all the claims had processed. The whole experience made us so grateful to have pet insurance - we'll definitely maintain it for our greyhound and any future dogs we own. Based on this experience, we'll be sticking with Healthy Paws.

Best Pet Health Insurance
Healthy Paws pays promptly and without a fuss; sometimes a claim is submitted by email and approved the same day. They generally don't require an explanation of services from the vet, just a bill and a brief description of the condition from the pet owner. And most importantly, there are no defined limits as to payment. They pay 90% of the amount submitted after the deductible, less the office visit--nice and simple. About as good as you can get from pet insurance.
