Elaine was amazing to work with
Elaine was amazing to work with. She’s a true professional and was kind and patient and so thorough in reading through all the coverage and disclosures for the plan I selected. I love our Nationwide coverage for our other dog and knew we needed to get our new puppy covered too!

Rate increases
The easy of submission for claims is nice and they due process quickly but it’s absolutely ridiculous what the company does every year raise the monthly rates. I started at 28 dollars a month and now pay over 100. They also doubled my deductible to 500 and now only cover 70 of cost. And they do the reimbursement in a very shady way where they first reduce the bill to 70 percent and then add that to the deductible so it’s a much less number that gets added each time.

I insured three dogs with Nationwide…
I insured three dogs with Nationwide and had a very disappointing experience overall each and every time. Despite paying monthly premiums for all three pets, I found that all claims—whether for routine care or legitimate medical issues—were either minimally reimbursed or denied entirely. The most recent example was my dog’s ear hematoma, which was denied as being related to a “pre-existing condition” (ear infections/otitis). This was frustrating, especially since it required real treatment and significant out-of-pocket expense. What concerns me most is the pattern across all three dogs. Even for relatively minor visits and check-ups, the reimbursements were so limited that the insurance provided little to no financial benefit. Between deductibles, partial reimbursements, and broad interpretations of “related conditions,” I ended up paying nearly everything myself while still paying monthly premiums. At that point, the policy no longer made financial sense, and I chose to cancel coverage for all three pets. I would strongly encourage others to carefully review how pre-existing and related conditions are defined, as this can significantly impact what is actually covered.

Overpriced, Opaque, and Hard to Reach — Save Your Money
I paid over $2,000 out of pocket for my cat Wasabi's dental procedure. When I submitted the claim, I included a detailed explanation supported by my veterinarian's own assessment. The denial I received back didn't engage with a single point I raised — it was a generic, templated response that showed no evidence anyone had actually read my submission. Getting any kind of follow-up has been a nightmare. Online chat and email go nowhere — responses are slow, vague, or simply don't come. I haven't even bothered calling because I already know what that experience looks like. To make matters worse, this policy is riddled with internal fine print that you simply won't catch unless you read every line with a magnifying glass. I previously had coverage through Nationwide, and they covered things without all this bureaucratic runaround. Pets Best is significantly more expensive — and delivers significantly less. Expensive premiums. Hidden limitations. Templated denials. No real customer service. I am furious, and I want other pet owners to know what they're signing up for before they commit to this policy. I am currently in the appeals process. I will update this review with the outcome.
