Like Wading Through Cheese [updated]

I thought there was a problem with Figo denying claims but it turns out to be one slight teething problem with the underwriter not understanding what a blood panel is, and my vet, who is OK but REALLY BAD AT FILLING IN FORMS. Approximate won't do when filling in forms an insurer is going to base a decision on, so I think my vet will be undergoing a little retraining :) I have accordingly updated my review. My apologies!

Peace of mind

My policy covered end-of-life expenses for my 16-year-old fur-baby last year. I now have a 10-year-old rescue who's is covered by ASPCA insurance. I continue to be very satisfied with the service of this company. I appreciate the communication regarding status of a claim.

Remarkable customer service and care

I had been with this insurer for 10 years. Recently, my golden doodle suffered a rare blood disease and the end result, after many tests and treatments was to put her to sleep. During the entire 10 years, and most especially in the past few weeks, the people at trupanion went way above and beyond. I never write reviews but I felt it important to mention that this is a business that cares about the customers they serve. Thank you again for your incredibly compassionate and excellent service.

Great company and service.

Molly has just had her second TPLO surgery, besides handling my claim quickly, they check in to see how she is recovering. I recommend Healthy Paws to every one I know. They have been a life saver for Molly.

Excellent, but pricey

I had our old Samoyed dog insured with Trupanion and was very happy I did. Wish I could have afforded it for all my pets. Maybe one time in six they mistake something for a new illness and apply the deductable again but this has always been easily sorted out. Sometimes the connection between illnesses isn't obvious - especially as different vets and hospitals will explain the same problem in different ways ('cervical neuopathy' is the cause of 'walking difficulty' etc., not two different things.) They paid thousands without blinking. Must be at least $10k. Well worth it. MRIs, stem cells, gastric torsion surgery. He had better healthcare than I did. We are currently stuck with Figo for six pets. No claim they can't turn into a complete nightmare disaster. With Trupanion you get a diagnosis and your worries are over. With Figo your pet gets sick and your troubles are just beginning.

Two claims - two complete disasters

We have six pets insured by Figo and two have recently become ill. It seems some program or unqualified employee is scanning vet bills for terms like "wellness" in blood panels and auto-denying entire claims based on that. No matter the reason for the visit. A decent vet will order whichever blood panel has the required tests in it - in order to keep costs down. I could always ask the vet to order each test one at a time so that they have impressive sciency names like "hematocrit" and "blood urea nitrogen" or "calcium". The bill would be $1000 instead of $100 though. Seriously Figo, you'd prefer that? "Its no problem" says the lady on the phone "you can appeal"? Yeah actually, it IS a problem. I shouldn't have to. Figo - would it have killed you to read the reason for the visit. We were pretty clear about it on the claim. Would it have killed you to phone up the vet and check if you didn't believe us? Take the second claim. We have a new cat. When I found it on the street six months ago it was covered in fleas and scabs from scratching at the fleas. I gave it flea treatment then took it to the vet for antibiotics and a check-up, paid for this all ourselves and the cat was well again. A couple months later I added her to our policy. A couple months after that and, still flealess - she suddenly started licking patches of fur off and acquired a heart murmur. Hmm.. Could be kidneys, could be dermatitis could be any number of neuropathies. It is heartbreaking to watch the poor little creature scratch and lick herself raw till she bleeds and we don't know why. The vet doesn't know why. The hospital doesn't know why - so she was booked in for more tests this week. Then Figo wades in. Claim denied. Code 4. Pre-existing condition. We cancelled the tests. She either gets better on her own soon or she gets put to sleep. Figo outsmarted the best doctors in Georgia (and I'm no slouch at this medical stuff myself) and beat everyone to the diagnosis. I am so impressed with Figo right now. I'll be even more impressed when they name this pre-existing condition. Know what's most impressive of all? They call the plan we're on 'Ultimate'.

I feel embraced with Embrace Pet Insurance!

I reviewed many pet insurance policies before choosing Embrace. My puppy is a rescue, found on the side of the road while I drove home from work. It was a very hot day, she was on a rural stretch of highway. My vet suggested a major medical policy for her since she was a puppy and ate everything.... As a nurse, I appreciate their comprehensive care, great customer service, and wellness benefits. Wellness benefits are truly a great service, since we all know that routine care can add up quickly, but it is so important to our pets health. My claim was handled promptly using my wellness benefit. I would recommend them to any pet owner.

Well worth it!

I've had VPI for a little over a year and it's been great. My dog has had a few incidents that were well over $500. I've gotten over a thousand dollars back in reimbursements from the insurance. Definitely worth the $25/month I spend!
