More negatives than positives

I am finding it harder to recommend Petsecure to my friends more than ever before. While I have had the positives, like dental injuries being covered and in a timely fashion, I feel that I have been plagued with red tape and have had to fight too much to make this policy worth it. This summer I purchased an adult dog who I believed was healthy. She was intact as she was selected for breeding purposes. She had been to a vet before I purchased her and all was fine. I brought her to my vet and signed up for the vetstart quick as it only has a 48 hour waiting period for illness or injury and I knew what plan I wanted. The vet that examined her that said said she had a false pregnancy and that her hocks hyperextended...fine, I understood that would be included, even though hocks hyperextending is a very common finding in dogs. A week later I had her hips and elbows xrayed for breeding clearances, only to find she had hip dysplasia. When talking to an insurance represenative this past fall I had mentioned that she had been spayed and they said they would review the exclusions as reproductive issues won't be a problem now that she had been spayed. I have since gotten a letter stating that her hips will not be included, even though it was discovered after her waiting period and she is not clinical. She was even taken to a board certified specialist who wasn't concerned about them at all as her muscling is good and she's not lame. I am very upset by this as I would have wait

So glad I switched to Trupanion

I switched insurer's due to lack of coverage from my previous insurer. Not only have I gotten TOP NOTCH coverage - the service is unbelievable. Never before did I get an email asking me if my girl was feeling better.

An honest and reliable company

Every time I submit a claim it is handled timely and fairly. After denying a claim for a major surgery the company performed an extensive review and reversed their original decision in our favor. The employees are knowledgeable and courteous. I am most impressed with this company

READ YOUR DETAILS!!!!!

I have had insurance since my puppy was 8 months old. She is now 4 1/2 and has been diagnosed with lymphoma. Her inital aspirations of her glands cost $151..the insurance co only considered this test to be $58 and therefore only reimbursed me 80% of that amount. Now she is undergoing chemotherapy and she only has a $1500 limit. She policy expires in May of 2012 and then becomes a pre exsisting condition and will not be covered. The insurance co now has a new plan offering continuing coverage, but of course they never told me and now it's too late. My husband and I have been researching pet insurance for any future puppy, and through this same co..they do have a better plan but even on their continuing coverage (cancer, heart etc) they will only reimburse 80% (even if you chose a higher amount) and they put a cap for lifetime limit of $6K. My dog has gone through 4 of her 12 treatments and I'm well into $3k right now due to tests, hospitalizations etc... if you have a dog that is going to have a life long problem...how can they cap you on that. I really liked my insurance, but now going to have to look elsewhere
