Great Insurance

People laugh when I tell them I have pet health insurance but we laugh last!! After purchasing our first puppy who was sick every time we turned around we started looking for insurance to help cover his vet cost. Of course when we got the insurance he started to be healthy once again. Then on Christmas Day he was playing and broke a toe nail and we discovered a lump in the back of his neck. We were at the vet 3 days later and surgery was done to remove the tumor and thanks to Trupanion they covered 90% of this bill. After all was said and done we only had to pay $53.50 for his surgery instead of the full amount. Love this company and I tell everyone I can about them!!!!!

Great first time experience

I've had this insurance for a little over a year, but this was my first time making a claim. Every representative I was in contact with was very helpful and courteous and made the process as painless as possible. I am very happy with my experience and the company.

Watch your credit card statements!

We had Trupanion for several months and made a few claims (nothing huge, no surgeries, etc.). About 9 months after inception of the policy, I received a call from a supervisor saying that Trupanion had accidentally forgotten to charge their customers' credit cards for several months -pretty loose accounting practices (I hadn't noticed as my husband handles them). The customer service supervisor gave me the option of continuing the policy and getting those months caught up by my paying them, or cancelling the policy altogether (even though I had made claims during that period). I decided to cancel the insurance as it was very expensive for our dog $84/month, and we weren't using it much. Fast forward seven months later. Today we received seven charges (all dated the same date) on our credit card bill, each $84. I called Trupanion and they argued that I needed to repay them what they had forgotten to bill me last year. I told them about the conversation I had with the supervisor last year. I also asked them why are they are trying to charge me NOW for those months? They replied, "Our end-of-year accounting showed that we never did." So, their accounting department has made two pretty serious errors on the same account, and I'm supposed to pay for it?

We LOVE Embrace!!

We have 2 pups that are covered by Embrace - both young, but seemingly always at the Vet's office! Embrace has been great about not only addressing our claims in a timely manner, but also reaching out to us promptly if there has ever been any concern on our end. The staff constantly emails us with updates, and also asks about how are pets are doing by name. They feel like an extended part of the family - taking care of our Lucy and Ollie as well as we do :)

The Last Thing You Want to Think About

When your dog gets hit by a car, the last thing you want to think about is how you're going to afford treatment. Luckily, I didn't have to spend time worrying about this when it happened to my dog, Jackson. If you think your dog won't get into an accident like that, get the insurance anyway. Just in case. Collars break, leashes come off, pets sneak out the front door. The claims process has been very easy. My claims from the emergency treatment and subsequent vet visits have all been processed in just a little over a week. Overall, great experience. Better than my own insurance company.

first experience with Trupanion Canada

I have owned several dogs over the years and my 9 year old doberman has cost me a fortune (I swear I could have put a child through university by now!). I adopted a rescue chihuahua last year, and after much research and deliberation I decided to get pet insurance for her; I recently added my second adopted rescue dog to my policy. Most of my family and friends were skeptical - so I must share my 1st Trupanion claim experience. Just before Christmas I noticed a lump on my chihuahua; the vet was quite concerned and the lump was removed via costly surgery. My vet submitted the claim form to Trupanion and within 2 weeks I recevied notice that the claim was processed. I am very impressed and quite relieved to have pet insurance for my chihuahua. My doberman was just diagnosed with cardiomyopathy ($1700) and another vet bill was overwhelming! Unfortunately, it's too late to sign him up now :-( But, if I knew then, what I know now... I highly recommend pet insurance from Trupanion; this 1st experience has been excellent. I will never be without pet insurance again - owning a pet is so expensive nowadays.

very good insurance...

I have insured my dogs since I bought my second Bernese Mountain Dog in 2007. During that period of time, I owned 3 dogs, 2 Berners and a Chihuahua. My Chi swallowed part of a cow ear, after seing my regular vet, I had to take him to an emergency clinic because they felt he needed an endoscopy. Well, poor Niblet, that didn't work but they did manage to push the piece he had swallowed into his stomach. Between my vet and the clinic the cost was about $1200+ and I was reimbursed for a little over $1000. My next incident was with my male Berner. Hagen ended up in the emergency clinic over July 4th weekend in 2008. He was diagnosed as having a blockage. He really was in tough shape and knowing that I had the insurance gave me the opportunity to go ahead with surgery rather than take him home and watch him suffer while we waited to see if the problem "passed". Good thing! That bill was $2600+ and I was reimbursed with $2300+. It didn't end there... poor Niblet got very sick at the beginning of 2009. I finally had to have him euthanized in April of that year. I love my dogs and could not bear to do a group cremation. Pet First covers part of the "funeral expenses". The final incident (at least to date) was with my female Berner, Ebba. We thought the poor girl had an abcess... not so. Within a matter of two weeks (and I think this is unbelievable too) the swelling turned into a mass of tissue, no warning really. Ebba was diagnosed with cancer and I was faced with m

New to pet insurance, glad I have it!

I had only had my puppy for 1 month when I made the decision to get pet insurance. I had heard about VPI from my vet but I didn't like the pre-determined claims maximum they had on illnesses and injuries, especially since I didn't know if it was comparable to what vets really charge. I chose Embrace because of the reviews. At that time, Embrace had the most positive reviews and they offered plans that I could customize. About a month or two after I purchased my puppy's plan, she began favoring one leg. It turned out she needed surgery for her shoulder that was going to cost around $3,000. She had the surgery, is doing well, and Embrace reimbursed me after about 9 days of waiting. Overall, I am very happy with their customer service department.
