Saved us almost $400 on our first use

Our dog had some tummy issues and when we took her to the vet nearly the entire visit was covered. She is not even 1 yet so assuming she is like most dogs she will have her share of sicknesses and (hopefully not too serious!) accidents. We are happy we went with Trupanion. They are great and approved the claim before we even left the vet. No need to submit paperwork or anything.

Outstanding Insurer

Everyone told us pet insurance was a waste of money. After a few years of vet's bills, however, we decided that the peace of mind was worth a few dollars each month to avoid the possibility of an excruciating decision down the road. Trupanion was one of several companies we considered. We have been completely satisfied with them; I only wish our other insurance companies were so responsive, service oriented, and reasonable. Our beagle is now almost 7 years old and was diagnosed with Cushing's disease about a year ago. Trupanion didn't blink; they have met all the responsibilities they committed to meet quickly and accurately. And they haven't jacked up our premiums to the hilt as a result of regular claims. A first-rate company. We couldn't be more pleased.

Best Insurance Ever

Trupanion is one of the best insurance products I have ever used in my life. I bought it for my Boston Terriers when they were both puppies and my female has had 2 medical incidents. The payments have been so timely, so hassle-free and the customer service so incredible that I just had to leave a review. I would highly encourage anyone who has a pet to use Trupanion.

Would Recommend Trupanion

When our little Orlando (4.5 lb Chihuahua) went for spaying the pre op blood work showed very high liver enzymes. The vet followed up with a bile acid test which indicated a possible liver shunt. He then did a ultra sound and determined that it was not a liver shunt but that Orlando has a small liver. He has recommended liver supplements ( covered by Trupanion ) and a low protein diet. I would recommend Trupanion to anyone looking for pet insurance. My claims have always been handle quickly and they always enquire as to how is Orlando feeling :)

Echo-cardiogram twice a year

Mister Mouser, our sweet young cat, has a developing heart condition. He was adopted from our vets' adoption center and there had been no sign of this condition when he became part of our family. He needs an echo-cardiogram every six months. So glad he is also part of Trupanion's family.

Good Coverage

Trupanion's coverage was excellent. There was a slight delay in mailing the check; but nothing major. Some confusion over a prescription from her regular vet; I should have secured it from the Pet Emergency Hospital. Trupanion customer service is responsive and helpful.

Great co. to work with

My previous dog had numerous health issues so when I got a new dog I took out medical insurance,Trupanion was a good choice! My new havanese puppy "Muffin" lost her tear production after a year old,Muffin is doing good now but will be on medications the rest of her life that are epensive.I have 90 percent coverage of her meds that Trupanion pays qickly! Also Muffin got a severe skin infection that her regular Vet could not treat.Muffin needed a specialist and a 950.00 surgery to biopsy her lesions and test for cancer!Thank goodness they were benign and now she is recovering on new meds! Trupanion paid 90 percent of her bills in just a week! Very helpful and nice people to do business with!

Cat Renal Failure

I signed up for this insurance just before my cat's annual review. Blood work was done and it was determined that she had renal failure. Paperwork was submitted to Trupanion, and it took awhile before I received reimbursement. By this I mean like 8 weeks. Once the subsequent paperwork was submitted, I received better turnaround response from Trupanion (approximately 2 weeks). They are very friendly too.

Rate skyrockets as pet gets older

I absolutely loved this plan when I had it for my previous, now deceased, dog. The entire package was great...rates, plans, coverage, customer service. I chose the accident/illness/wellness plan (the premium plan), and stayed with the plan for many years, and the rate increased with time of course, but reasonably. Then when my dog turned 11, they raised my rate from $800 to $2400 saying that my dog was now old and would need extra care, hence the high rate. I could not afford this and cancelled the insurance. The company offered me coverage under a basic plan (barebones) for the price I used to pay for the premium plan, $800, but I felt like I was being price-gouged, and unappreciated for my previous business. Since I could not get a different insurance, because most companies will not insure an older dog in a new policy, my dog had no insurance from then until he died two years later. Luckily he did not require much vet care other than vaccines and an occasional treatment. Most companies will not cover pets for costly chronic conditions anyway, like cancer or organ failure, so I felt that it was outrageous that my rate increased like that after I had been such a loyal customer for years. I escalated this issue with the company's management to no avail...they were so rude as to inform me that in some years they actually paid me more for claims than what I had paid as my premium, so that I had in fact actually "made money" from my policy. Isn't that how it sometimes goes with insurance? What business do they think they are in? If their rates are not profitable enough for them, they should reset them, not drop or price-gouge loyal customers who would never have anticipated this action. Be sure to ask companies what their rate schedule is as the pet ages, and get a specific ceiling on the price before buying. Or plan that you might not have affordable pet insurance for older pets, regardless of how long you have had your policy.
