Easy and a no-brainer decision
Living in the Bay Area I am well acquainted with the high costs of keeping a pet healthy. I did a lot of research prior to choosing Healthy Paws and after also receiving a recommendation for them from a co-worker, I signed up in 2015. I am now so happy I did. Their plans are straight forward and don't have a lot of complicated schedules. No insurance covers the regular exam fees and routine care but for the major mishaps that can happen, they get my vote. Luna developed a heart murmur last year and Healthy Paws came through then covering diagnostics. This year we, unfortunately, had an accident on a walk and required surgery. The surgery was about $5500 and Healthy Paws covered 80% as outlined in the plan I chose. My return on investment has been amazing and you can't say that about too many things. They make submitting claims easy on their site and a few days later I can see the processed claim and the amount in direct deposited into my account. Smooth and simple. I have no complaints.

Best pet insurance
We had this insurance for our fur babies for over 10 years and this was a life saver for us every time our pets had to see the vet. Yes they don’t need the vet everyday but that time they needed it’s very expensive and it happens always when you are not financially prepared, so I would definitely recommend everyone getting this insurance for their pets.

Wonderful but somewhat restricted
I have been using Nationwide since it took over for VPI and have been very happy with the help. It really makes a big difference when you have little issues pop up and think that they are wonderful for that stuff but the wellness plan could be better. I was very surprised when I found out that they only cover so much of tick and flee prevention. I guess any bit helps but I thought that it would be more. I have also referred multiple customers and never received a notification,

Paying for insurance? Good luck with getting things covered for your pet
I have had VPI insurance since my dogs were 6 months old. They are now 7 years old. Since they were bought out by Nationwide there are even more restrictions. You go to the vet having insurance and you have to hope the visit is covered. I have found limits to their visits if it’s for the same type of problem. Even if I try to submit part of it for coverage (ultrasound) I have found they will not cover it. It has become truly disappointing and I would suggest each pet owner check their insurance policies and limits before buying it. It may not be worth it in the end. It’s just like human insurance but worst!

Great and affordable.
Great afforable pet insurance, with 90% reimbursement. They are very helpful and kind, although the time it takes for your claim to be processed took longer than I would like. (Up to a month).

They refused to cover an Emergency Vet exam , stating it was basically a service charge from the vet , after I called .
I’m not happy at all with the service I was provided . I put claim in back in May of 2018 . They just got to processing it . I called them at least 4 times about my claim . They stated we never received a claim untel Dec 2018 . They just go around processing it , now Feb 2019. I’m told they will not cover an Emegency Vet exam . When I called was basically told that it was a service fee , from the vet , and all vets charge one Yes after all that they paid a big $4.83 of my vet bill . I pay almost $70 for them to cover $4.83 . I will be looking for another company to do business with , this High way robbery . I have been paying on my police for last three years , so they can cover $4.83

Healthypaws allows you to remove financial consideration from critical care for your pet
I have had Healthypaws on my dogs since I adopted them as puppies. Having this coverage is something you hope you NEVER have to use but when you need it, having it can mean that you can remove financial concerns as a factor in if your loved one lives or dies. One of my pups became very ill and if it wasn't for Healthypaws I am not sure if I would have been able to remove the financial burden from decisions about care. I am forever grateful to Healthypaws for that.

Confused and frustrated
i love this insurance for my 7 year old dog. But as for my 14 year old it just has not been worth it because EVERYTHING is pre-existing! So when you keep denying everything I submit I have to ask "What am I paying for every month?" She is a senior and I am having to pay monthly payments and then her vet bills on top of that without any reimbursements. It's so frustrating and very expensive. Now she may need special food for kidney problems.
