Pretty good!
We have the wellness plan and have been fairly happy with nationwide. Our one concern is that they don't cover allergies or anything remotely looking like allergies. Frankie got a hot spot from playing at camp and Nationwide claimed it was an allergy and chose not to cover our bill. Dogs get hot spots all the time and it doesn't have to be allergy related. Other than this issue Nationwide has covered 90% of any medical expenses and that's been great.

Gave up and Had to cancel
After enrolling both of my dogs in Trupanion when my Berner was just a puppy, I battled this company for 4 years before finally deciding I had to cut ties. When both dogs got a serious parasite infection and were in the ER..... it took MONTHS to get reimbursed after burying me in questions about my dogs' vet files that had nothing to do with this claim. They were in the weeds asking me about things I never claimed in the files, and I told them I chose not to....leave it as I would tell my dogs. Then every simple claim became a battle...… their deductible is supposed to be "per INCIDENT" but they treat it as "Per diagnosis:"....so when my Berner was scratching at his right ear and shaking his head 2 different times - that should have been 1 deductible and 1 incident. BUT they hit me with the deductible twice, and found every reason they could think of to not cover it. The number of exclusions, and items not covered were hard to even keep up with and were never explained......it became exhausting trying to ask and get explanations. The final straw was a dental claim - only my 4th claim on my dog - and they promptly doubled my rate. I now pay less for both dogs, then I was paying for just one with Trupanion. I will never look back!

It's a nice service but your prices are rising every year and are starting to get out of line

My policy has tripled in six years - and that's even with me increasing my deductible otherwise it would have more than quadrupled

Had great experience but unfortunately premiums are getting way too expensive and unaffordable.

Helpful and responsiveness
ASPCA has always been responsive and timely in their response to claims. They have always been positive and friendly. I recently looked into another pet insurance company and realized it was far more expensive than ASPCA and it didn't offer anything additional.

Good coverage for pets
I have 3 policies with Nationwide and for the most part, it is is good insurance. Historically, Nationwide has taken a full 30 days to reimburse me, but the last few claims were processed much quicker (one week). You can opt to have reimbursement funds sent directly to your bank account which is convenient. Their insurance structure is similar to human insurance in that policies have an annual deductible and co-pay versus a per-incident deductible. Contrary to the language in their literature, they do raise rates annually and some years the jump is higher based on the amount of claims I've had. Perhaps that's coincidental, but I think not. Their policies do not cover pre-existing conditions, but none of the pet insurers do. It's best to get pet insurance immediately upon adoption.
