Pets Best - Amazing Company
As my cats were aging I decided to invest in a pet insurance policy about 5 years ago, and chose Pets Best because of their affiliation with Progressive, which is where I bundle the rest of my insurance. I didn't really use it much at all in the first several years, but as they both got older they both developed chronic diseases - one hyperthyroid and one kidney disease. Both of them towards the end of their lives required significant veterinary care and both on different occasions required overnight hospitalization, which was very expensive. I ended up paying out nearly 10k in the last year of both of their lives for vet bills, without having used this insurance and not really knowing how much was going to be reimbursed, or how difficult it was going to be to get reimbursement, and if I would be stuck in lengthy claims processes with pushback. I was absolutely shocked at how easily and smoothly the process went. There was no pushback on any of the expenses, all that was necessary for a claim was to attach an invoice, and within a couple of weeks I got an explanation of benefits and a direct deposit into my bank account. I was so grateful that this process didn't add to the difficulty of the situation. And even more than that, when both of my cats eventually passed away at the age of 18, when I submitted the claim for their end of life care, they quickly paid it out, responded directly to me personally with a message of care and condolences, and proactively cancelled my account and reimbursed me for the time I had already paid after they had passed without me even having to ask or do anything myself. I was very touched that beyond an easy process, they genuinely seemed to care about me and the loss of my boys, and made direct efforts to have it be as easy on my as they could. I cannot recommend this company enough!

Run!
Worst experience with an insurance company ever! I purchased the insurance after my cat developed symptom of pulling out fur, which appeared to anxiety related. Shortly after effective date he was diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is not related to alopecia. The claims were denied, I appealed and vet sent in a supporting letter which agreed alopecia is not a symptom of diabetes. The appeal was denied. The denial letter did not provide any information regarding the next stage of the appeal process, or the 30 day time frame for appeal. 6 weeks after I received the letter, I called to get information on the appeal process, and was told the time had expired. Metlife's conduct is disgraceful. Don't waste your money or time.

Always great.
They have always paid my claims and I had over five dogs that were covered by them. They never refused any claims they even paid for two knee surgeries on one of my dogs and they always pay for the euthanasia part at the end of life. I've had MetLife for over 13 years and I have gotten back quite a bit of reimbursement which would have cost me an out-of-pocket since I always had five dogs at a time. I highly recommend this insurance to all the people who ask me what insurance I use I just tell them that they just don't cover pre-existing but otherwise they're great. Plus they less then any others I have checked. Especially for senior dogs.
No brainer
Our puppy suddenly lost feeling in his hind legs. We were able to take him to the vet without worrying too much about medical costs as he was insured. After scans and neurological consultations we were able to get our boy the help he needed. Without insurance it wasn’t something we would’ve been able to afford out of pocket. He has more work to be done in the future but so far in one month insurance has paid out thousands. For additional peace of mind they also offer the chance to approve medical expenses in advance for more costly procedures scheduled ahead of time.

Love pets best
We haven’t had any issues with pets best. We have used them for many years. Our boy cooper just had TPLO surgery and was going to cost $7400! With insurance we received 90% back just a few weeks after surgery. Not to mention all the allergy issues he’s had and the shots every month. They have been amazing answering questions and processing claims quickly. I recommend to anyone who asks… and even to some that don’t lol

Great until they start raising rates
Started out affordable, then raised rates by double or triple each year up to over 2300$ a month for one dog. Started hassling about claims, blatantly said they didn't want to pay that much any more.
Not impressed so far....
2nd claim - over 15 days no communications. I get emails "still in review" - the first claim same thing they do take so long i am not sure I understand. I took insurance to help with the cost but I'm not sure this is a benefit. Customer service when I was signing up was amazing - so far I am not impressed.

Quick and Easy!
I recently used the PetsBest mobile app to submit a claim for my cat's illness visit to her vet. The process was incredibly easy and took mere minutes (if that). I was pleasantly surprised that my reimbursement check arrived in less than a week. Almost everything from the visit was covered, with the exception of two prescriptions. I agree that they shouldn't have been covered; in hindsight, I should have declined those prescriptions by the vet as I didn't use them (which is on me, not PetsBest). I'm very happy with PetsBest and highly recommend them.

Pretend Runny Nose 5 Years Ago Means Asthma is a "Preexisting" Condition
I decided to get pet insurance after experiencing high vet bills when my oldest cat had kidney failure. Since getting this policy, Nationwide has rejected every single one of my claims because a vet 5 years ago added a visit note that my cat's nose was wet. Even when I escalated this issue, noting that my cat had never had asthma attacks before this year, Nationwide rejected my claims. Now, I've spent $286 paying for a policy and $800 paying for vet visits, lung x-rays, and medication. I do not recommend this insurance unless your pet has literally never seen a vet.
