Extremely poor experience

Extremely poor experience. Have had issues with more than 3 claims now (I’ve been a customer for over a year). First issue they didn’t receive my dogs medical records from my vet within a certain window so they rejected the claim and ignored me when I sent in the records after the fact. Then they decided to stop covering a treatment for his cancer which they had been covering for almost a year because they found a co-occurring symptom (on bloodwork) and decided it meant the illness was a preexisting condition. Most recently they denied a claim for an ear infection because he had an ear infection in the 2 week period of the policy (this was more than a year ago), saying that the two infections are related when the cytology results show the infection is actually different. They also tried to say that these infections were caused by allergies when there’s no evidence to suggest that. It’s clear that they’re just making up reasons at this point to not cover illnesses that are coverable. I really wish I would’ve gone with another company.

The claim submission procedure was quick and easy . Spot insurance kept me updated regarding my claim through email. My cat went to the vet on Wednesday 1-28 claim completed in less than a week.

They deny you coverage on issues that…

They deny you coverage on issues that have not been medically diagnosed by a doctor. If you shown concern they will not cover your pet for that concern even know the pet has no medical history what so ever. They are refunding my money. This place is full of it and just wants to take your money like all insurance companies this one only cover some just in cases.

Claims are processed quickly

It’s easy to submit claims and they have a fast turnaround. I was surprised to find they cover 50% of prescription food for two months. I thought my vet at VCA would be able to submit claims but they said they don’t.

Trupanion has been a great experience as to reviewing and paying the appropriate, reimbursement in a very timely manner. All explanations of what is covered and not covered is very clear. I also want to thank "Brad" located in Flushing, MI for his help re submitting 2 claims for further review. We have had Trupanion Pet Insurance for 2 decades covering 3 of our wonderful dogs over the years. Painless experience

While the website for submitting claims is not intuitive, the mobile app is better and the overall process was easy. I spoke to a representative who helped me with the Claims process and it was processed in a timely manner. My only compliant is the rising cost in insurance premium across all providers.

I have been paying into Trupanion (2…

I have been paying into Trupanion (2 plans) for my dog since October 2025 and just submitted my first claim on 1/31/2026. My claim was denied because my dog had one UTI in the past and was treated once for diarrhea a year ago because it was written off as a preexisting condition. I cannot see how in any way this is right, and sincerely regret wasting all of these months paying into a company that basically feels has taken advantage of me as a customer. What a let down. I cancelled immediately. **Edit after Trupanion's response. $725 for nothing. No thank you.
