It has been a disappointing relationship. From being told that our puppy would be covered from their first vet visit, to being denied benefits for pre-existing conditions (how can a puppy have a pre-existing condition?); to learning that the discount we were being offered wasn’t even competitive with market rate offers outside of our group coverage - it has been a deeply disappointing experience with MetLife.

Beware preexisting condition loophole and excuse

I purchased a dog with benign asymmetric testicles and neutering was not recommended at that time. Months later one testicle enlarged significantly. Spot denied the coverage based on a prexisting condition. The neutering was not recommended or planned initially and was only pursued based on substantial enlargement that occurred well after coverage. I would avoid this company whose top priority is finding reasons to avoid coverage. I was warned but didn't heed the warning about their use of preexisting conditions to justify non payment of a new illness.

I insured a 6 month puppy just over a week after adopting from a shelter. There is a waiting period for the insurance to start. The second day after the accident portion of the coverage began my puppy passed a bloody bundle of sticks and needed to be hospitalized. Embrace will not cover it as there was no specific incident in which he ate a stick (he was just crazy about eating everything after being in the shelter his whole life and it was a constant battle). I know all insurance companies make their money by denying claims but this company aligned itself with USAA and I expected the same level of quality and service. They are nothing like USAA...
