LOOK - OUT with older pets.

I had a policy with Pets Best for a short time for my 9 year old miniature poodle. My vet determined my poodle needed cataract surgery. Called Pets Best to be sure it was covered and they said no because it must have been pre-existing. I canceled my policy that day. People with young pets, I would agree, pet insurance is wise to have. However, those of us with older pets, most every illness can be determined as pre-existing if you have had a policy for a short time.

Hi Burt, conditions like cataracts can take months or years to develop in a dog, so if you’re insuring an older pet for the first time, you do run the risk of discovering pre-existing conditions that won’t be covered.
Pet insurance is still an excellent idea for older pets, and any condition that develops after the waiting period would be covered. This can include conditions like ear infections, broken bones, cancer, diabetes, or being hit by a car.
