We've have had VPI Pet Insurance for 11 years, since we got our cat, Rusty, as an 8 week old kitten. We have the standard plan with "careguard" and a cancer endorsement. For the first 10 years we were satisfied with the insurance. Our reimbursement under "careguard", for routine exams and vacinations seemed fair. And then Rusty became ill with blood in his urine. The vet wasn't sure of the cause. Tests were run and two different antibiotics were tried. We had an unbelievable amount of trouble then. First VIP wouldn't pay anything because a definite diagnosis hadn't been made. Then there was an excuse about his teeth having been checked during the visit. After submiting the claims about four times the company reimbursed us $440.47 of claims totaling $1473.50. Our annual bill just came in the mail. When I called the company so I could get the price of an upgrade I was informed that because he is over 10 years old I couldn't obtain an upgrade. Please read the fine print. The standare plan isn't very good. I really agree with the customers who have complained about their reimbursement scale.
