I have two Pekingese that I have had enrolled since they were about 6 months old. Missy, which is now 5 1/2 years old, has really been through everything. At 1 1/2, she had a litter of puppies, which is where we got the second Pekingese, Dazee. After Missy had the puppies, we had her fixed which also included two hernias being repaired. About a year later, she had her first back surgery. Four months later she had her second one. Since then she has had numerous UTI's and had her anal glands removed. Missy now is on medication for epilepsy seizures. That poor baby has been through so much but she still gets around and is still Mama and Daddy's baby. Dazee is just the opposite. All we have to do to her is take her every year for her shots. She is calm, easy going, and healthy. If we had not had insurance, I don't know what we would have done. Each back surgery was between $3,000 and $3,500. VPI doesn't pay as much as I would like but it is very helpful when you have a lot of vet bills.
