I had a policy with VPI for my cat for many years. When she actually was diagnosed with cancer, I thought I would be well covered for the surgeries and chemotherapy that followed. I was shocked to find out that the amount covered under their pretermined benefit schedule was just a small percentage of what everything ended up costing. To be honest, they DO give you their benefit schedule when you sign up, but unless you know what the costs are to treat every type of disease in advance, it is hard to figure out what you will actually get back. I think a big part of the problem with them is that their benefit schedule is really outdated as far as what veterinary costs actually are. The one good thing I found about them was that they did pay their claims very promptly.
