Ten years ago if someone had recommended health insurance for my dogs I would have laughed in their face, but now with the increased cost of vet care I'm glad I have enrolled both my boys with VPI. It seemed a little weird that they will not cover a gastropexy ($300) as it is a preventative treatment, but it is nice to know that they will cover the bloat in the future if it does happen, which can cost up to $2000. My claims have always been processed in a timely fashion. A word of advise to those with multiple pets and multiple policies would be that if two dogs are taken in for a shared visit (as I often do for vaccines) only one policy will apply to the office visit charge. I think it is because the charge is not itemized specifically for each dog, but is stated as office visit for up to 3 dogs. I end up eating the increased cost of the visit. Like all insurance policies the VPI vet coverage for my boys is really for an emergency. My thinking is I'm going to be paying the vet bill anyway, I might as well pay the monthly payments and maybe get some money back if something expensive happens.
