Beware of how Petplan used deductibles.
In the description on this web site for Petplan it says: "You have a co-pay of 10%, 20% or 30% after your deductible."
That is NOT how they do it.
You would assume that this means taking the total bill for covered services, subtracting the deductible, then reimbursing you at your chosen reimbursement level (like 80%).
Example: Bill is $600. Deductible is %500. Reimbursement rate is 80%. $600 - $500 = $100. You are reimbursed .8 x 100 = $80
This is not what happens. They take the total bill for covered services, apply the reimbursement percentage, then the deductible.
Example: Bill is $600. Reimbursement rate is 80%. $600 x .8 = $480. $480 is less than your deductible of $500, so NO reimbursement.
I just experienced this. I have never seen a deductible used in this way. It clearly comes out in their favor.
Petplan used to be GREAT. But since they lost their original underwriter, the quality has declined dramatically.
