I insured my first Irish Wolfhound with PetPlan over 2 years ago, but chose to use AKC Pet Insurance with my new IW puppy earlier this spring. I was completely satisfied with PetPlan; the choice to use another company was based on the belief that AKC Insurance covered more preventative.
I am so sorry I made this decision. My puppy had to have orthopedic surgery at 6 months, at a total cost of nearly $4300 include rehab therapy, surgery, meds, etc and NONE of it was covered. I still would have done the surgery because I would not have allowed the pup to develop lameness, but I do admit that I was not prepared to have to pay the entire bill. I will be switching the pup to PetPlan in the immediate future.
Just 2 months ago, the adult Wolfie had a severe reaction to NSAIDS and had both uppper and lower GI bleed. She underwent some intensive therapy and care, and is perfectly fine now. I submitted all the forms and was reimbursed exactly as expected within just a couple of weeks. I absolutely recommend PetPlan!!!
