My first experience with pet insurance is with Pet Plan. After I spent $12,000 - $14,000 on my previous dog for amputation and chemo treatments, I decided to insure Buddy (another Yellow Lab). I did a lot of research comparing different companies and Pet Plan seemed to meet my needs best. I was not interested in a comprehensive plan that covered routine office visits. I was more concerned about catastrophic situations involving surgery or other expensive treatments like chemotherapy. Buddy was diagnosed with Lymphoma this past fall. It was upsetting as he had not even turned seven. Initially, Pet Plan was a bit slow in their reimbursements but that was due to a communication problem with my vet. Pet Plan had requested the medical records for the previous two years and for whatever reason, my vet's office people did not respond. Once that was taken care of, the checks have been coming in regularly. I ran into a neighbor whose dog was also suffering from lymphoma. She happened to be covered by Pet Plan as well. She said she had no problems renewing her policy with Pet Plan even though her dog is still in need of chemo treatments. That convinced me that I had made the right choice to go with Pet Plan. To date, I have received over $2,000 in reimbursements. I would definitely go with Pet Plan again.
