I learned my lesson the hard way on why people need to consider pet insurance. I took in a friendly stray 6 month old kitten who became the best house cat. I didn't get pet insurance on her as I didn't think it was going to be needed. But 4 years later, after a stroke, massive seizures, and other neurological issues in a short period of time I really racked up thousands in medical bills. Some of the effects lingered until her death last year at age 12. Last year I adopted 2 of my foster kittens and vowed not to make the same mistake and find coverage that also included my 15 year old cat. Insuring a senior pet is no easy task, but PetPlan to the rescue! They offered a policy for my senior cat and the two kittens. If I were to take the cost of the insurance premiums and put into a special savings account instead, it would take almost 5 years to save $3K. And any pet parent knows that emergency bills and hospitalization rarely have you leaving for less than $2K. Back in January, my 8 month old kittens eye all of a sudden became cloudy. Eye issues can be quite serious, so off to the vet we went. After a week of medication we did a recheck and all was as it should be. I knew I had a small claim but thought it would be great to test the process. I had zero issues and a check is in the mail. I always recommend pet insurance and PetPlan to everyone I meet. You just don't know what is going to happen. Even to an indoor cat!
