I adopted a rescue puppy (9 wks) and was concerned that she would have health issues, so I purchased PetPlan Insurance. I reviewed a number of policies before buying PetPlan, and almost went with another company, but thankfully I reviewed both very closely, and I believe I chose the right one. Although we have only had 3 claims to date, and Layla is now 2 years old, there is still some concern about her musculoskeletal system.
This company allows a customer to purchase a plan based on their own preferences (i.e., amount of deductible, amount of co-payment) which really works for me. I got the Silver plan, with a $100 deductible and 80% coverage (20% co-pay) for covered services. Best of all, one of Layla's claims was a continuation of a previous claim, and PetPlan picked up on it, and sent me the reimbursement check.
I am grateful that PetPlan exists, since they will cover hereditary or congenital illnesses, whereas many other policies will exclude them. They are straightforward in their generous covered expenses. They are pleasant to deal with on the phone.
The claims processing is just a little slow (about a month), and they have made a couple of coding mistakes (claim was approved on account, but letter arrived saying it was not covered), but overall I would recommend them, and I will keep them.
