Insurance is good for major health problems

Out of 10

We have a boerboel with hip dysplasia and he also has had TPLO's on both knees from torn ACL's. Pet insurance is definitely nice when you have a pet with major and expensive health problems. We still pay a lot in premiums and annual deductibles (because it's per health condition), but we really can't complain because the insurance does help. Pet insurance is a gamble. It's worth it if you end up having a pet with chronic major health problems. If you are lucky enough to have a healthy pet, the cost of the premiums and annual deductibles might not be worth it in the long run. When you need it, it's good to have. If you don't need it, it's expensive to have. I tell people to look at the breed they have, research potential health problems, and make a decision from there. In regards to Petplan vs. other insurance companies, they do appear to be more reasonably priced and I do like how they cover hereditary conditions. That was my primary reason for choosing Petplan. Not all companies cover hereditary problems and if they do, might not cover as much.
