I adopted a 8 month old dog from a rescue group and was told that she appeared to have broken one of her back legs in the past. The rescue group got her from the shelter who picked her up as a stray with no microchip. Three days into her policy being in effect she started having growing pains, a common issue for puppies. I submitted the claim. VPI just wanted to keep claiming that it was related to her previous break or a pre-existing since I couldn't come up with medical records dating back to months before I adopted her. I kept informing them that I had adopted her recently and my vet even sent a letter saying in his professional opinion this was not a pre-existing condition. To no avail. They denied the claim three times and refused to process any more claims until I provided them with the records from before I adopted her. I reported them to the CA state board of insurance and canceled my policy with them. So unethical!
