Got a squirrel chaser? Then you need insurance!

Out of 10

Having paid several very large vet bills for my prior dog out of pocket , I decided not to go without insurance for any future pets, and I’m very glad I did, because my squirrel-hating Cocker Spaniel managed to tear her cruciate ligament racing down the stairs to chase a squirrel out of the yard. I used a specialty orthopedic veterinarian to make the repair. Specialists are always more expensive, but I’ve used this particular vet for other things with prior dogs and knew my dog would have a good outcome with him. As a result, I was concerned about how much VPI might reimburse. I was pleasantly surprised that they reimbursed more than I figured they would, based on my review of their schedule. I suspect they’ve reimbursed me more than I’ve paid them over the few years I’ve had this bane of the squirrel domain, and they reimburse pretty promptly - I’d say normally within three weeks of submitting the claim. I’ve been quite happy with VPI’s service and reimbursement practices.
