I purchased a VPI insurance policy for my English Mastiff, Libby, when she was just 8 weeks old. I work for a veterinarian so I have access to basic care and vaxs. So, I just covered her with the "catastropic" type police, with an additional Cancer Rider. I had lost my previous Mastiff to bone cancer when she was only 4 1/2 yrs old. It cost us a fortune for her radiation and chemo treatments. I vowed that that wasn't going to happen again. Libby was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma when she was 8 yrs old. That was a little over a year ago. We've been treating her since then. When I submitted my first claim, the reimbursement seemed low. I talked to a rep in the help center. She agreed that the payment seemed low. She said they needed a little more documentation of the diagnosis. I refiled the claim and sure enough I received a second check. The cancer rider on Libby's policy has covered almost half of her care. Not only that, but when she was 4 yrs old, she tore her CCL and needed surgery. That was also covered by just under half the amount. The coverage I have received for my girls care has been exceptional. I have filed for so much more than what I paid in premiums. I will always insure my pets with VPI.
