Excellent overall coverage and service.

Out of 10

I have been with VPI for the past 16 years and 6 dogs from 8 weeks to 13 1/2 years. I have seen the total basis that their reimbursements get based on get better over the years- some areas of the country are just more expensive than others. This is a Major Medical Policy, similar to the policy you buy for yourselves. The premiums increase by age, and have gone up over this length of time, but the increases have been reasonable. My dogs have had everything it seems, including 2 types of cancer. For the most part the reimbursement is between around 60%. I'm very pleased to see hip dysplasia has been added, although the limit is low. Be sure you're comparing apples to apples before you switch, another may cover one thing but not another. You can't base your decision on 1 or 2 incidents. You could probably self-insure if you look at it that way. An insurance policy should be looked as a long term investment that you can use as needed, mostly for major medical, i.e. illnesses that you might not be able to afford otherwise. One dog may use the policy a lot, and the next one not at all - yes, I had a dog that died at 13 without a single vet bill. But she had her insurance if it was needed, and I had several other dogs that more than made up for this in the savings they provided. My one suggestion, and it is a big one, is that alternative treatments, including herbs, should be covered. Saying that they are covered by licensed veterinians is like saying they're not covered - I've heard
