Rate was increased after claim

Out of 10

My dog was bit by another dog in his ear and the ear is hard to heal. So after the initial emergency room visit there were several other visits for the continuing problem of this ear. Trupanion did pay, but I had to go back to them over the deductible, as they tried to charge me the $100.00 twice. They did send it back after my Doctor sent them a letter explaining that it was the same problem. So all in all they were good, but right after they paid me I was notified that my monthly policy cost was increasing. I am saying I will not recommend this company due to the rate increase and the initgial visit at the emergency room they paid no part of. They do no pay for Doctor's examination.

Hey Blanche-
I hope your dog's ear is doing better!

I completely see how the timing would make you think your premium is going up due to filing claims. I can absolutely assure you though that claims will NEVER go up due to claims you file, or just because your dog gets older. Over time though, we do have to adjust premiums to be reflective of advancements in veterinary care and changes in the way people are utilizing available services.

If you take a look at the below page of our site, we've put out information on how we set our prices, and what causes premiums to change. There's also a great video of our CEO Darryl explaining premiums and when/why they change.
