I got a puppy in the end of October and was debating whether or not to get insurance for him. I started looking into it and found VPI. The website was not very helpful so I called VPI and they explained the different policies and I signed up for the Major Medical. I didn't include the extras (vaccines, vet visits, hereditary etc.) since I really just wanted insurance for the MAJOR unknown problems/surgeries that might come up in the future. Within the month my policy went into effect, Kingston (chocolate lab) hurt his shoulder and needed x-rays. I hoped that VPI would cover some, but they covered it ALL! The only issues was that it took a long time. They wanted all his vet records--probably to make sure it wasn't a pre-existing condition. Then, a couple months later we went back to the vet for some stomach issues. I figured since it was a vet visit, not for any emergency, they wouldn't cover any of it. To my great surprise I got a check in the mail for about 60% of the vet bill! It was also very timely. Overall, I've been very satisfied at the level of reimbursement and the policy has already paid for itself and then some!
