I have 2 dachshunds, both of which are covered by VPI. I unfortunately had to submit a very high claim last July. My husband & I were driving home from our vacation (7 hrs.). We stopped to gas up & walk the dogs. When my husband picked Sofie (4 y/o) up and sat her on the ground, he immediately realized she was paralyzed from the waist down!! Needless to say the remainder of our 4 hr ride home was very distressing!!! We drove straight home & waited for our vets. office to open. It was a Saturday & he was off, so we immediately took her to the emergency room!! The vet diagnosed her with a disc issue & said we had a 24 hr. window to have survey or it would be permanent. He immediately called a neurosurgeon & we headed there. The surgeon called in his on call staff. When we arrived he explained all our options & surgery was our only fix. We were concerned whether she would walk again, his response absolutely!! He told us the cost 6500.00 - 9000.00. I told him I had VPI. & he said it was the best insurance out there. He said their reimbursement was the highest. He performed the surgery & the office submitted everything to VPI for my claim. My bill was almost 9000.00 & I was reimbursed close to 5000.00. The turn around time was phenomenal & any one that I ever spoke to at VPI were so kind & caring. Incase your wondering my sweet little Sofie is not only walking, she's running around the house & yard with her brother Buddy!! Thanks VPI!!! I will forever speak your praises!!!
