Our cat Felix was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at age 12, a terminal condition that could potentially be managed for a while. We live in NYC and have access to amazing pet hospitals, 24 hour emergency rooms and Felix got amazing care. He had a cardiologist, a primary vet, and his care was very expensive, I estimate we spent around $6000 in 6 weeks of care.
Petplan made it very easy for us, reimbursing promptly for every bill submitted including ultimately for his cremation after the end came. There was not a single treatment that wasn't covered in full according to the plan details. Felix got the best medical care possible, and for those of you reading this I can happily tell you that Felix was largely unaware of his condition, it was very well managed right until the end.
Our policy covered 90% of most of his care, 80% on some of it minus a one time $200 deductible. There were days when we received multiple checks from Petplan all on the same day!
TIPS FOR THOSE CONTEMPLATING INSURANCE:
1- All plans with all companies require that you pay the costs up front and get reimbursed. If you don't have the cash or a credit card with credit equal to the amount of the coverage you have, consider obtaining a credit card if possible with sufficient credit and then putting that card in a spacial place never to be used except for medical care.
2- Make sure your vet submits the bills promptly. Find out who in the vet office actually submits the bills and speak
