How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had emergency situation with Elvis ~ our Balinese male cat. It was Thursday/Friday morning around 3am on 14th of July. He was shaking ~ like few seconds all body shaking and it was for more than half an hour ~ when we decided to take him to Blue Pearl ~ which is 24/7. He got admitted and they checked him out and did blood work. Since his bloodwork came good ~ he was released with some liquid medication that we used for a few days. Yes, emergencies are not cheap ~ but we were highly satisfied with their deduction, knowledge and help. We spent around hour or two there, but came home happy. Only thing I didn’t like was following: They took Elvis in some examination room and I wasn’t able to be there with him or see him. He was there for like 30 minutes & I was worried. I believe that this is a normal practice ~ but it didn’t feel comfortable to me. My rating is 5 stars ~ they helped us, they did follow up & also informed our regular veterinarian at Middle River Animal Hospital about this emergency. I am very thankful for everything! ❤️💖 Highly recommend!

I appreciate blue pearl animal hospital so very much. I unfortunately have had two separate pet incidents that brought me to their facilities. One was a cancer surgery. With that experience, the evaluation and treatment was explained to me thoroughly. I understood the procedure and prognosis, very clearly, and appreciated the honesty of the doctor. The love for my pet was so very visible. Even after she died, the staff all remembered her and was, so loving over a year later just to care for her. My next incident was a true pet emergency and the doctor diagnosed treated and involved me in the emergency process so quickly. I visited my pet at all hours of the day and called at all hours of the day. Each time I was received with kindness and patience. The staff was so loving with my puppy and was very honest with her Dyer situation. They used multiple outside resources in her treatment and seemed very knowledgeable with everything they had to do for her. I recommend the doctors there as we saw many of them over the course of treatment while we were in patient Under their care. Thank you so much Blue Pearl Er.

On a scale of one to ten this specialty, emergency pet veterinary faciality deserves a bazillion points. Not only were they kind, caring and extremely professional, they donated to us a quality pet carrier for our cat when we didn't have one to transport our cat to and from the facility. Who does that? Dr. Abdo did a thorough check up on our little girl and it was determined we would have some more time with her. We thought for sure we were going to have to let her cross the rainbow bridge. You guys are AMAZING!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I hardly provide reviews however, based on my experience with my pet I feel like it is my duty to inform the public. I've owned pets for over 20 years and been to many vet's and facilities for pet care. This one was the absolute worst I've ever experienced. They will hit you with outrageous fees, less than compassionate doctors, and few options for your pet's survival that isn't going to cost you your life savings. As you arrive they charge you $800 just to see your pet who's experiencing a life threatening emergency. Be aware, I lost my Female Doberman because the care to just tell me what is going on with her would cost me 14k they estimated. I am still heartbroken and beating myself up because I should have chosen better for my Doberman. To think this facility is where she took her last breath haunts me. Please Stat away and find another emergency 24hr facility.
