How to Save Money at Bayview Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Highly recommend seeing Dr. Brittany Bowsher. We had to take our very fearful dog in for an urgent visit. The entire Bayview staff was wonderfully understanding, caring, and kind towards our scared and somewhat difficult dog. Dr. Bowsher spent time ensuring our dog was as comfortable as she could be and tried to make the experience as quick and painless as possible. She was knowledgeable, provided multiple treatment options, and fully transparent with all costs associated with the visit. We also loved working with nurse Mike R. who was similarly wonderful and calm with our dog. We will continue to use Bayview for our vet needs!

Been going here for years. Between the dog and several cats we have seen quite a few doctors over those years. Today Dr. Thomas saw one of our cats. She was kind, explained things to both my wife and I, and was understanding of our families needs, even on a busy day. Thank you Dr.

I went to Bayview back in 2018 with a different pup and they were caring and wonderful. Today, I took my 1 year old Maltese for his annual and how unprofessional and negative the assistant Dessiree was, I received a price quote prior to my visit when I arrived the price was doubled. I was a bit taken back and the assistant said I was smiling, So I asked is smiling an issue, she made it seem like I was rude, I asked is it wrong for me to smile, silliest thing I ever heard, I was rather surprised and I think anyone would be after hearing the price difference, but if I lost my top or argued I would be considered rude, I simple stated what I was quoted Is not what you’re telling me now, and I guess she didn’t like I was asking about it . When she left the room I could hear every word she was saying. So a word to this office, the walls are thin and it’s quite rude for a client to over hear any negative comments or remarks you say, not a good look. Once the doctor came into the room I decided all I would do since I drove so far was to give my pup his rabies vaccine and I will go back to his regular doctor. What made me even more upset the assistant wanted to give my less than 4pound pup all his shots but Dr McDonald stated she would recommend that I space the shots out maybe over two weeks at a time, so I could only imagine if I did give him all the shot at once like the assistant mentioned. I think that assistant is in need of some customer service training and maybe think about what she says before she speaks. I will never go back to this place. It certainly has changed over time. Maybe my pup knew he wouldn’t like it there because he was growling and didn’t want to go from the time I got there I guess he was trying to tell me something because he’s not a barker or growler but I guess he sense the vibe.

I’ve been to many animal hospitals in Fort Lauderdale, pompano, Deerfield, etc. always come back to Bayview. My little dog had an accident and arbor said I had to come back with an appointment. I called Bayview and staff were waiting outside with towels to receive my injured pup. All after hours. That’s love.

Fantastic. Five star service and facilities, with very reasonable prices. Everyone was nice and attentive. I almost felt I no longer was in Florida, which is notorious for bad service everywhere. I absolutely recommend this place. Specifically, ask for Dr. “Bauscher?” Not sure I got the spelling of the name correctly. She’s one of those people who care for real.
