How to Save Money at Head To Tail Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Hood treated our family dog Blue (chihuahua) and the most thorough vet we have ever visited! We highly recommend and will be switching our two other dogs to him immediately. Amazing staff and experience :)

Head To Tail has been with us through a lot of fear, and heart ache. We brought our Meek in, and they tried everything they could to save him. They spent more time in trying to help him than any other vet I've been to. They were quick acting with my Babayaga's crystals too. I've lost several cats to crystals, so having them act so fast saved his life. The same vet that did everything she could with Meek, saved our Mister Nugget too. He is back to the cat he used to be with the help of his K Glutamate! I love the receptionists too. They are all such lovely people and really make the first and last impressions good ones ❤️

My 19 senior cat started to dramatically decline, stopped eating, throwing up, just sleeping. I called in absolute tears and they got me in the next day for quality of life. They got me in the room quickly, a warm cozy bed was set up for my cat and the wonderful vet did her exam. Blood work was done and turns out she just had a bad infection. The vet and nurses and all the staff were absolutely amazing at getting my little senior baby back to health. what started out being one of the worst days of my life yesterday at appointment #1 to leaving tonight laughing after appointment #2 with a well hydrated kitty full of good meds, Couldn’t recommend this clinic enough.

We have tried six different veterinarian clinics in Maple Ridge. Some were okay, and some were outright shady. After a couple bad experiences, we decided that we would try head to Tail. The fees were a wee bit higher, but the care and service provided is certainly the best we’ve experienced in more than a decade. My dogs are -everything- to me, and I am the first to admit I’m a helicopter dog-dad. So for a veterinary clinic to be so awesome that I write a review about it is super unlikely. I’m not easy to impress, especially after some bad experiences. When our doggo is in the room, the vet treats him like he matters. She treated him like I do and like I want him treated - with dignity, love, and respect. There was an assistant in the room taking notes so the Dr. could focus on our pup. They followed up the next day, and then a few days later. The most important thing - our high needs rescue pup actually likes the vet (Dr. Jenifer). He trusts her. And he’s been comfortable in the clinic and with the whole team. Not one other clinic of the six we tried was comfortable for him. And so many veterinarians in other clinics treated him like livestock or like a car getting work done. He’s never liked a veterinarian, only tolerated them. His affection for the Head to Tail team is the result of their treatment of him and the effort they put into connecting with him. They don’t pressure us or guilt us or ever give us the impression we’re being judged when making health decisions for our pup. They give us the information and option, listen to us, and support us like allies. Last week my soul mate (pictured) went in for CCL surgery. If you’ve been through it, you know the surgery and recovery can be a scary and complicated event. Our surgery date was six weeks from the day we decided to proceed with it. The whole process was so well handled by the entire Head to Tail team that it helped us feel confident that it would all go well. They’ve always been just one phone call away and it’s clear they are with us through the whole event. Their support has greatly contributed to our confidence and to his comfort and success in his recovery. We’ve finally found our forever vet.

I love this place, everybody here is so kind and truly cares about your pets. Dr. Catherine Stewart has been immensely helpful with our little Pomeranian, Sprinkles. We trust her with our dog’s life completely. Can’t say enough good things about this place! Thanks everybody!
