Will definitely shop for a new…

Will definitely shop for a new insurance. I just received a notice that my dogs insurance will increase from $230 to $320 because of “rising cost in the area” and that I wasn’t notified in January when my declaration page is updated due to “system error”. So convenient that I received this notification 6 weeks after Trupanion had to pay out several thousands of dollars for her surgery. This is not the first big jump in price. I originally paid $100 when I first got her at 6 weeks and now they are expecting over $300 a month and she hasn’t even turned 4 yet. I had even altered the percentage covered to try and keep prices affordable. Extremely disappointed!!! Seems even more suspicious as I said earlier….6 weeks after an expensive procedure you want to up her rates!?!?

Trupanion raised my rate within 30 days…

Trupanion raised my rate within 30 days for no reason. We cancelled immediately. I did not want to deal with this type of company that would dollar someone to death. Done and goodbye.

Healthy Paws Insurance Making Gold Standard Care Possible

I've had Healthy Paws Insurance for my dog Akiva for several years. Most recently we needed to make a claim for his emergency surgery when his urethra became prolapsed. A surgery and hospitalization bill that would cost just under $4,000. Because of Healthy Paws I never have to worry about the financial aspect to determine our treatment/care options. Healthy Paws is quick to process reimbursement(s) within a few days and very easy to submit a claim through their app. We are truly grateful!

Coverage shouldn't feel like a battle

What Embrace Does Well: The customer-facing staff are polite and responsive. The policy options seem comprehensive at first glance, and onboarding was straightforward. I had hope that this would be a reliable safety net for my pets. Where It Falls Short: The claims process has been exhausting and deeply frustrating. What I didn't anticipate was being made to feel like I have to fight for coverage I'm already paying for — at every level, including underwriting. The exclusions are overbroad, and the burden of proof falls entirely on the pet parent, not the insurer. I have spent an enormous amount of personal time and energy trying to ensure my pets receive the care they deserve. It has been so consuming that I've had to set aside other matters. That level of stress is not what anyone signs up for when purchasing pet insurance. What They Could Improve: Embrace needs to reconsider how its claims and underwriting process treats its customers. A pet insurance company should be a partner in your pet's care — not an adversary. The current process feels combative rather than supportive, and that needs to change. Broaden your approach to coverage, reduce the unnecessary burden on policyholders, and back up the pleasantries with a process that actually reflects care

Prompt Service

Healthy Paws always processes claims promptly. Some of their exclusions can be a bit frustrating and my biggest complaint is they will not review estimates, so it can be stressful to be confronted with vet bills without knowing what will be covered. It would be great to be able to call and ask if a particular procedure is covered. But all a client is told is, "Get the procedure and submit the bill and we will let you know."

It took me over 1 hour to complete this form. It would not let me change my zip code which is incorrect on the form. It would not let me add my address. It would start to "jiggle" on the address and wouldn't let me go further. It took me over 5 times to do this. Very frustrating.

A great experience having Healthy Paws in our corner

We have become so accustomed having to battle with every health insurance company to get any satisfaction. We really haven't had any substantial claims to submit to Healthy Paws until recently when one of our dogs developed a problem with her eye. She ended up needing surgery to correct the problem. We braced for a battle with healthy Paws to try to recover our claim, but we're very pleasantly surprised to find out that they were covering all the expenses that met the criteria of our policy. No arguing, no long delay, just fair honest coverage for our little girl. We are extremely pleased and will continue to suggest Healthy Paws to all our friends.

Do not get Trupanion for your pets.

Do not get Trupanion for your pets. The only reason we still have this insurance is because we enrolled when our dogs were young and healthy. At this point, switching providers would mean all of their existing health conditions would become “pre-existing,” so we feel completely stuck. Not only is Trupanion significantly more expensive than many other pet insurance companies, but they also constantly make billing and coverage mistakes and then refuse to correct them without forcing customers through a lengthy appeals process. The worst part is that whenever Trupanion makes an error, the burden falls entirely on pet owners and veterinarians to fix it. Their appeal process requires doctors and staff, already working exhausting schedules, to spend additional time contacting the insurance company, submitting documentation, and explaining issues that were caused by Trupanion in the first place. Just today, we were incorrectly charged a $500 deductible for treatment related to my dog’s chronic condition, a condition he has been treated for over 8 years, and for which the deductible had already been satisfied long ago. The paperwork from the veterinary hospital was filled out correctly from the start. This was clearly a Trupanion system or billing error. Now, after spending all day in and out of surgeries, someone from the surgery department has to take time to contact Trupanion to correct their mistake. That is unacceptable. Trupanion should be responsible for fixing its own billing errors, not veterinarians or exhausted pet owners. Their entire business model seems to rely on customers giving up on the long, frustrating appeals process and simply paying bills that should have been covered in the first place. Be aware before choosing this company.
