I have always found Nationwide to be…exceptional

I have always found Nationwide to be professional and fair. I always recommend Nationwide to all the Paw Parents I know.

Great information!

The representative explained how our policy works and answered all of the questions I had. I can’t ask for more! Haven’t had to file a claim yet thank goodness so I hope the customer service level continues after that!

Good insurance for older pets

When I first got my dog, we were with another insurance company and it was a hassle in terms of getting claims to them and even more so for reimbursement. We switched to Healthy Paws in 2013, and they have been really amazing. Great customer service reps and an easy to use app and website, can upload invoices from your phone and quick to reimburse. The no lifetime limit is also a big one for me, as my dog is older and I don't want to be stressing about vet bills if it means saving his life or making him more comfortable. He's recently had fairly major surgery for a dog his age and knowing that we reached our deductible and will be covered at 70% took much of the financial strain off my plate.

Jury's Out

Great marketing gets you in the door. But dealing with claims people feels like insurance. Sample FIGO communication regarding our dog's ortho waiver: "Thank you for providing this information. We have received [your dog's] completed orthopedic waiver form with the exam performed on 08/20/2021. This has been reviewed and applied to his policy. The 6-month waiting period has now been waived for the orthopedic conditions that were assessed during the 08/20/2021 exam and do not show any clinical signs or symptoms. The left front limb is excluded based on the waiver and medical records received from [your dog's] veterinarian. The waiver and medical records show outside palpation and a recommendation for radiographs. Until a further orthopedic exam and diagnostics can be run, these conditions may not be eligible for coverage as they were noted to be abnormal on the waiver and medical records. To clarify, the orthopedic waiver is not a guarantee of coverage." All that because our vet's exam notes indicated: "Outside palpation - looks OK. If further test needed recommend x-ray." The waiver form doesn't require an x-ray. And the vet's note just indicated the limits of his exam (palpation). Seems clear to me. But it wasn't to the FIGO "claims support team." So, after incurring the expense of a vet exam to get FIGO's ortho waiver form signed, we decided to just wait out the 6 month ortho exclusion period rather than jump through more hoops (and incur more expense) for the FIGO claims support team. We haven't made any claims under our policy (which we have renewed for a second year), and hopefully, we won't need to. But, based on the ortho waiver experience, I wouldn't be surprised if there are more hoops to jump through. Bottom line: Don't be fooled by the touchy feely marketing. It's insurance. So, read your policy carefully and expect FIGO claims to assert all available coverage defenses in the event of a claim.

Misogynistic and vile customer service

Misogynistic customer company and service. In 2.5 hours they got me so livid and yet didn't address a simple question; why is it that only my husband is listed on the home policy, even though he is not even paying for it, while my name is omitted. Their 'heros' as they call themselves in customer service, kept telling me that they don't understand the question, but when I asked to speak to someone who does speak English and can understand the question I was told by Faryal that he is reprimanding me for my 'behaviour' for simply asking to speak to someone after 15 min of his 'I don't understand' nonsense. That is how you serve your customers? Consequently, I had to call back, unfortunately again with not getting any answers or results. I asked 17 times to speak with a supervisor, and I was not transferred. Instead, they come back and keep abusing you and poking you. I was called 'Mum' as if I'm 90 years old, then when asked them not to call me that and pointing out that this is a derogatory term, the rep Gil feigned shock. Next rep Mina was equally useless: I was called by my first name, and when I've asked not to be called Mum or by my first name he proceeded to call me 'Miss My First Name'. She held me on hold for 10 minutes. None of the three reps I spoke to transferred me to the supervisor. I asked 17 times. I'm not Miss or Mum, and if these guys can't get the basic introductory titles, then how in the world can they deal with anything else? Vile. 2.5 hours later, I didn't get what I asked for, but I am seeping with anger due to the treatment I received. It seems the company is training them to be abusive. BTW, they record the call but do not let you record it, even though it is legal in Canada. Their customer service is abusive, ridden with misogyny, and is of no help. --- If Sonnet sees this review, please save yourself trouble from pasting the same answer as you did elsewhere. You look pathetic, and you will be seen as passive-aggressive, just like your colleagues that I told you about. Address the situation instead.

Very Straightforward Claims Process

We got our dachshund just over 4 years ago and when we did we were warned to get pet insurance because they notoriously have back problems. Well, I'm glad we did because he ended up needing major surgery to fix a slipped disc. When it came time to make our claim, the process was straightforward and easy. They made it very clear what documents I needed to provide and where we were at in the process. I believe I was paid out within a week or two of submitting the claim!
