Pay close attention to your claims with multiple diagnoses. Though my dog was diagnosed with Kidney disease, which they do not cover (pre-existing) they constantly deny claims for Otitis Externa, ear infection, as well as the antibiotic, Claro used to treat it. Their explanation is that she was diagnosed with Pruritis at one point, which is itchy skin (due to allergies), and treated with Cytopoint, again not covered. I requested that all of these claims be reviewed. I will update my review when I get a response.

Responsive and Detailed
Embrace is quick to review and respond to claims. My healthy, athletic dog ran into some bad luck this summer with a bacterial/yeast infection in his paws and ears. Treatment has included weekly trips to the vet for cleaning/medication administration. As a result, I've had to file multiple claims. Embrace has been incredibly thorough in its explanation of coverage, and the reimbursement payments have been made in a timely manner. I am completely satisfied with the company, knowing my dogs are in good hands!!

Raised my premium 50% overnight after eight years being a customer
Well…I was happy with Embrace, mostly, for years. Then they said they were going to suddenly raise my premium 50%. I hadn’t made any big claims or anything…the cats are just a year older than they were last year. Well I got a policy somewhere else for slightly LESS than I’d paid Embrace even before the 50% raise. And when I called to say I was doing it, they didn’t do anything to keep me. Only if I slashed my coverage to the bone. They just let a customer go after eight years. That’s the kind of company they are, apparently.

30% fee increase and decline by default, forcing your vet to appeal every submission
I’ve been with Trupanion for almost ten years. I started as one of their biggest advocates, recommending them to any pet owner I knew. Then they started declining anything I submitted. Their default was to decline, and every single claim the vets would have to jump through hoops to explain why something clearly not pre-existing wasn’t pre-existing (like vets don’t have better things to do). Today I got an email that they’re increasing my fees by 30%! 30%!!! This might make sense if they increased rates based on the age of the pet or the number of claims. But no, their site states clearly that they don’t do either. So a loyal client of almost ten years who’s always paid on time and has always recommended them to everyone, they increased fees by 30%. And they know there’s nothing I can do, I can’t change companies now because everything would be considered pre-existing with a new provider. I could literally hear the guy on the phone shrugging like he couldn’t care less. Trupanion was one of the first good ones. There are more options now. Look around.
