I have been a previous customer
I have been a previous customer, and called to get a quote. This company is the only one that gets billed from the vet. Our vet recommended Trupanion as well. They worked with me to choose the right deductible and plan for our new pet. Prices as very very close to others plans, but you have to pay a bill first and then get reimbursed. So I chose the best company-Trupanion!

Takes a while to be reimbursed
I have been with Trupanion for a couple of years. My bill increases every year. Then they increased twice in the last year because I live in "an expensive area" for pet wellness needs. I am now paying almost double what I was per month versus 3 years ago. ($115 per month) Turnaround time used to be 2-3 days on a claim which is important to have the money back. However the claim time is much closer to two weeks now. Also, I have to follow up on EVERY claim to ensure it's there. Half the time they can't find my claim in the system. Then I have to follow up a second time to ensure it is being handled. While the people are very pleasant to work with, I am unsure why the service does not work the way it is supposed to for me. Or why it takes so long now to get the money back.

Chasing a wrongly denied claim
My issue isn't what happened this time but it was for a claim I filed in October last year. My vet and I received numerous requests for records that had been sent to Spot at least 4 times from me (don't know if vet provided or not). Then the claim was denied b/c of the records not being received. I used the correct email each time. I called Spot for help and was told each time that someone would expedite the claim or they'd call me back and nothing ever was done. It was extremely frustrating, to say the least.
