Refusal to cover valid claims, excessive wait times on claim resolution
Unfortunately I have not had good experiences with Embrace and will not be using them for future pets. They take an incredibly long time to process claims, sometimes a month or longer, and getting them to cover issues is a battle. They initially tried to deny any cancer coverage because my dog had an abscess prior to coverage starting. Despite visit notes stating it was an abscess, we had to get the vet involved to further prove it. They also tried to deny coverage for hepatic lipidosis from bacterial infection due to a history of thrombocytopenia. Despite having my vet submit an appeal letter, we are going on two months without resolution for the first claim relating to this issue. Finally, they are now also denying claims for soft tissue injuries due to a history of spondylosis. Basically, Embrace will do everything in their power to not cover claims and make it an incredible hassle to fight with them about it, dragging claims out for months I think in the hopes that owners will simply give up.

Trupanion is the way to go
The representative was knowledgeable, articulate, and she had an amiable demeanor and was a pleasure to interact with. I fully understood the terms and was pleased to know that the monthly cost would not increase as my dog gets older.

Penalized for being a responsible pet owner
I recently adopted a dog from a local shelter. Prior to signing up for the insurance, I raised the question of preexisting conditions with the rep over the phone since the shelter and myself had no medical records to go off of. I was told that would not be an issue, and nothing would be treated as such since there were no records prior to the adoption. I took my new dog to the vet and raised some concerns that I had noticed, fast forward to now to find out that ASPCA will not cover anything that has to do with that condition because I took my dog to the vet when I got him like a responsible owner and since the vet put it into their notes and the visit happened to fall in the first 14 days of the policy ASPCA will not cover it.
