Make sure you do your research on pre…
Make sure you do your research on pre existing conditions. My French bull dog had a slight ear infection when we did his initial wellness exam and according to their terms any Dermatologic condition is not covered for 12 months. I paid out of pocket 700$ and they didn’t cover any of it. Sad since I pay almost 100$ a month for absolutely nothing. They did not warn me about this when I got coverage initially so I feel completely scammed out of thousands of dollars.

Accessibility and Use of Pets Best Website
There is never a problem when submitting a claim. Directions are clear; it takes very little time to complete the process. Further, refunds are issued in a timely fashion and any explanatory information is easily accessible. My husband and I are very pleased with design and workability of the website. Thank you, Pets Best!

If you have a GSD you’re gonna need insurance
When you own a dog with more genetic anomalies than almost any other breed (German Shepherd) it makes great fiscal sense to have insurance. For the first 9-10 years it was kind of a”wash”, only using it incidentally. But Trupanion has been exquisite for us in the last 3 years, even approving a 6K MRI (which ultimately we didn’t use). Anyways today’s bill, rehab to try to bolster her neurological issues would have been $645. It was just $64. And this keeps being the case. I will never have an uninsured pet and my Vet can factor in Trupanion to my account so I don’t even have to send anything along. They simply ring me up at $$$$$$$ and I pay peanuts in comparison. I love Trupanion and I’m guessing my dogs do too!

Not worth it
I was with Trupanion for almost three years and the price isn't worth it at all. My monthly bill continues to increase without explanation. I've tried sending several claims in to cover some of the emerg visits I had with my dog and they keep finding reasons to either not pay or send barely anything back. It's not worth the cost. You're better off putting aside money than burning it with this company. On top of it all, you can only cancel your membership by calling in, and they left me on hold for over an hour. Save your money/time and go somewhere else

Conditions are confusing - think twice about deductible process
The customer service person I spoke with was great and I give her a 10. But Trupanion as a company - I'm not sure how likely I would recommend. Coverage for congenital defects is not clear and the claims are often not processed correctly. I'm having to do a lot of work to try to get things right. The deductible "per condition" initially I thought was a good idea but I'm questioning that now. There are so many conditions that I think I would prefer a yearly deductible like the other insurance companies do. Right now, I'm not a fan of Trupanion at all. Plus when I send emails they take forever to respond - sometimes I can't make the time to get on the phone and an email response would suffice. And they don't allow 2 email addresses and that causes me problems due to IT constraints for how my emails are setup. Edited 3-11-24 (from 3 to 1 star) after my vet manager spent time today talking with a claims specialist. The difference between "congenital/hereditary" and "pre-existing" is ambiguous, confusing, and overall conflicting. Our dog was diagnosed with a congenital condition at the age of 8 years old after 4 years of neurological activity that wasn't properly diagnosed. We spend a huge amount of time & money trying to diagnose the cause of the neuro activity and had reasonable differentials that we pursued fully. However the treatments were not working and she was still having neuro episodes. After seeing specialists (some a 4 hour drive away) multiple times + local specialists it wasn't until a recent specialist visit that we finally got a true diagnosis and the new treatment plan, thank goodness, is working. Trupanion now tells me that her treatments won't be covered because this is "pre-existing". But this is truly congenital/hereditary and we had been unable (after 4 years and a huge investment, pre-insurance) to diagnose this until recently and after I started on a Trupanion plan. This is just one example of the ambiguity in their plans.
